Cat - blood baselines

Just wondering how many of you get bloodwork done on your cats - and how frequently. We have three cats and consider ourselves to be very good owners. Over the last couple of years our vet seems more interested in making money - so just wanted to see what you all thought.

I have no problem bringing our cats in once a year for a check up - although if they are in good health we have gone as long as two years. Our vet now pushes visits every 6 months, which we have not done and won't unless there seems to be a problem. It wouldn't be bad except they send repeated mailings. They finally stopped telling us about 6 month appointments at each and every visit. Also, with every visit they push blood work for baseline testing. This is expensive ($225 - $250 was the latest quote). We have done this on two of our cats when they had some issues with vomiting. But doing this on an annual basis seems to be a bit much. (One of our cats has IBD and has also had xrays and an ultrasound. He also has to be pilled every day but is doing really well. His weight has been steady for about 2 years now.)

We are taking one of our cats in for dental cleaning and to have one tooth extracted (neck lesion) in a couple of weeks. And, as usual, the vet also recommends the blood work. It is $600 for the dental work plus $225-$250 for the blood work. Our cat has no other health issues and is 7 years old. He had bloodwork a couple of years ago. What are your thoughts?

Thanks!
