Comments (2)Yes. The pricing was cheaper since a plug-in power supply was used. You still need to know the exact dimensions of your cabinet undersides. Not all led lighting is equivalent. There are great variations in output efficiency, color rendition index, raw lumen output, ... There are threads on recessed lighting and Ucl which discuss options in greater detail....See MoreOdd under sink cabinet heat duct placement?
Comments (3)Apparently this was common (and not a code violation) when my house was built 25 years ago. Even if it was up to code, it's terribly inefficient. I bought a toe kick duct when we remodeled our kitchen last summer. It was expensive for what it is - but it was very easy to install. Here is a link that might be useful: toe kick duct...See Moreunder cabinet lighting vs under cabinet paper towel dispenser?
Comments (36)If anyone is interested, contrary to my own plan I wound up installing the UC panels under the front of the cabinets instead of the back. I did this everywhere except the PT holder. There, I mounted one just behind it, not all the way to the rear. The choice for me was simple: I could see the panels in the back and not in the front. The PT holder hides the panel to an acceptable degree, and there is no noticeable inconsistency between the PT panel and the next one in front thanks to excellent diffusion. The glare/reflection I worried about is not a factor and I've got a dual wireless dimmer mounted to the wall. Very happy with the results! Thanks again to everyone for your help. Btw, I used "Independence" dimmers and "Designer" panels both by InspiredLED. Peter did a good job, quickly providing plans and suggestions and also fixing a hiccup when a piece arrived defective....See Moreplacement of under cabinet lights
Comments (18)My electrician wanted to install my UCLs near the wall, for the reason cited above. However, my own preference was to focus the light on the center of the countertop (also as cited above). The reason I love working with my electrician is that he'll give me his opinion, listen to mine, and we talk through what the best installation will be. Regarding UCL placement, he said, "yep, you'll want these installed at the front. It's not what I'd do at my house, but that's ok - it's your house." I defer to his expertise on how to make the wiring work and meet code/safety; he defers to me on how I want to experience the final result. (He's done a lot of projects for me and also has extended social invitations - so I think/hope our appreciation is mutual.) You will have to live with your final result, so hopefully you and your electrician can have that difference of opinion and still end up satisfied....See Moreiris16
