Comments (0)I thought giving birth to two babies & learning how to breast feed was challenging... behold LANDSCAPING & GARDENING! My beautiful Mediterranean-style home sits in the middle of 1.25 acres. Unfortunately, nothing but sand and a little bit of what I refer to as "our green rug" (grass, 4000 sq. ft of it) surrounds it; front and back. My home resides in the good 'ole SUNSHINE STATE- Florida, NW Florida, most of which is humid-HOT but, we still get four seasons here. I would like to make friends with the neighbors again. They have been waiting well over one year for us to do a major landscape overhaul. My home is one of those newly constructed homes in which the contractor spit only a few bushes around the yard (I refer to those bushes as "rubbish"). None-the-less, it would be a great blessing to have wonderful creative minds help me gather ideas for a Mediterranean-style landscape design. Fountains, waterfalls, courtyard, outside rooms with fire pit and colorful Italian inspired gardens are all welcomed in the design. Below you will find a few photos of front, side & back yards to my above described home. If you have any questions or need more information to help with a design, please feel free to reply to my post. Thank you in advance for all your help :D .... Comments (29)I have passed your ideas about the built-ins to DH. I think this WOULD be the most attractive yet efficient use of space . . .and I've always wanted a window seat!!! We'll see what DH says. He is pretty handy, but he's never done anything like that at ALL. Too bad I don't have more $, because I do know a reasonably-priced, perfectionist carpenter! I am glad that you have pointed out that there wouldn't be much space to store things in the corner units, esp. the bookcase. I had wondered about that, but you've confirmed it. Maybe that bookcase was meant more to display things other than books? I like the idea of storing books behind the doors of a cabinet because it would mean I wouldn't have to search for a bookcase, but I am not sure how practical it would be . . .I find older pieces harder to open/close so I wouldn't want the kids to that regularly. Also, if the books are put away, they probably won't use them, since they'd be out of sight/out of mind. The binders in that room will be moved elsewhere, however! Some of you suggested painting that gold mirror . . .maybe I should. I don't know what to do with it! I bought it "custom" because it went with some other frames I had, but I am not in love with it. I'd rather go for something with more curves, etc.-- old! Ah, so many decorating mistakes I've made! Anyway, this thread has been so helpful! I cannot tell you how much it has helped me!!!!...See MoreWhat color for my front door? Storm door?
Comments (1)I think a coral in a glossy finish would look nice. I like storm doors for the extra protection the give, even with a porch. I would get the same color mixed for metal paint. The blue posts and railing is distracting. White would be so much better. I would paint the porch deck a classic light gray and the porch ceiling haint blue - a blue like the railing is now. Think of doing the upper portion in a hunter green, the siding and the all the trim in white. Here is a house all in hunter green. Here is a house that shows how stunning hunter green looks over white....See Moreteacats
