A summer project....tracking the bees!

At our garden club this week we were encouraged to take part in this project so that scientists can track how the bees are doing. You simply register, you can either buy the special sunflower seeds or have them sent to you, plant the sunflower seeds, wait for the dates to "watch" and then keep a record of how long it takes for and if 5 bees to land on the specified plant (sunflower).

I like to give my co-workers a little something at the end of the year and so I am giving them the data sheets and info, a package of the seeds, some gloves, a little shovel, and some lemon aid crystals all in a large glass tumbler I am painting for them. I will paint bumble bees on the glasses.

Even though it is an American University that is doing the study, Canadians are welcomed to take part. I just got back from buying my seeds (Lemon Queen annual sunflower)and all the supplies to make my co-workers gifts.

Anyway the link is below...I just thought some of you might be interested in taking part like so many do with the backyard bird count.

Here is a link that might be useful: The Great Sunflower Project
