open shelves or pie cut for corner

last decision on the kitchen...it's basically L-shaped with a bluestar range and hood on the short wall, cabinets on either side and the sink, fridge, dishwasher and cabinets on the long wall.

the question, in the corner, the current design has a wall pie cut cabinet in the corner. is there any advantage to making that open shelvering for books, vase, spices etc.?

there's open shelving in an adjoining area that is more of an office function for books, but no open shelving in the main part of the kitchen. there are glass upper stacked cabinets that could be for cook books as well...

KD feels strongly for cabinet with closed doors, says it will be much better use of space. cabnets are plain and fancy beaded inset kent buttercream...

any thoughts appreciated!
