Well pressure switch with low pressure cut off

Our area is approaching 18 inchs behind on rainfall.

Wells have been drying up. Water is having to be trucked in.

So far our well is doing ok, but we use minimal water.

We are most worried about the well pump if our well goes dry.

Someone told me about a pressure switch that works like a

normal pressure switch but if the pressure drops too low

it will shut the well off completely and stay off until

someone checks on it. It's supposed to keep the pump from running dry.

Where do I get one. And what can I expect to pay for it.

How can I be sure I don't already have one installed.

Those switches shut off below 10 PSI. A lever on the side must be held manually until pressure rises above 10 PSI. For this reason, the pressure switch should be in a convenient location. Available at Grainger and any plumbing supply place.

I found the pressure switch for our well
and it doesn't have a lever on it anywhere.

I can call the plumbing supply place here in town and ask
how much one costs. I'm wondering what one normally costs.

IMO The problem usually is something stuck, may just need loader valve or unloader valve dissassembled, cleaned, and seals lubricated (if you turn an adjustment screws make sure you count the turns, so you can put them back where they were or you will encounter new problems). Outside chance it was run dry and burnt up. IMO also it it had been run dry in the pass, (No water hose hooked up and water inlet pressure flowing through the pump they get hot real fast with no inlet water hooked up or if you run it and don't have the trigger pulled. I never run mine more that half minute without pulling the trigger to alow water to flow or I shut it off)It could be brunt up or just worn out. Only dissassemble and inspection will tell. Anyway what you got to loose it an't working now so might as well try it.

Was the unit not under warranty when they came out and added 1lb of Puron? I think you may have a small leak somewhere. At one of the braze joints or possibly at the service valves. They can use soap bubbles and/or a leak detector to find it. A low pressure switch stops the unit from operating when the pressures are too low. This is often caused by insufficient refrigerant charge, caused by a leak or something else. If it's not a leak, could be an airflow problem or something else causing the pressures to be off. But the Infinity control would, I'd think, tell you if it were an airflow problem. So I think it's a charge/leak problem. Only use a company you have confidence in.

With an open-ended irrigation system how would a bladder tank help the system? I don't think it would; with or without a bladder tank, the irrigation pump supply will come to an equilibrium pressure & flow with the demand of the sprinkler heads. The pressure tank gains you nothing during operation. Why not just turn the pump on and off with an electric switch? It's cheaper than a bladder tank and pressure switch.

I have read the directions and looked at some online as well. I was hoping for a simpler description of adjusting the switch. From what i can tell, i need to tighten the main pressure screw to bring the low end up to where i want it and then loosen the secondary screw to bring down the high end to where i want it. It seems the difference is right around 25 and should be 20. I fear experimenting too much and screwing it up to the point of draining the system again to replace the switch. It will be trial an error, but i would like to be sure i start out in the correct direction. I would be happy to get close to the original 30-50.

They might not sell to the fellow who just walks in off the street. 7 pages of pressure switches. I suggest buying the correct pressure range rather than trying to adjust after installation.
