Kittens sucking on fingers and toes ...

Coco and Jas-purr are 6 months old now, and insist on sucking on our fingers and toes. Coco tries to suck on my eyes too :(

As some of you might know, they're two of the litter of 7 Pumpkinettes, and since they weren't getting enough from Mum Pumpkin, we had to bottle-feed them twice a day. They were weaned gradually, at 10 weeks of age, and at first Jas wasn't into it but I guess he learnt from Coco. She's pretty insistent and will try to suck on my hair if I tuck my fingers and toes under the duvet.

Any suggestions on how to get this to stop?

We had a kitten who used to do this.If you let him,he would suck on your shirt until it was sopping wet!

My suggestion is just some gentle discourgement.When he or she starts doing it,kind of push them gently away and say,NO.If they keep trying,just say no louder and clap your hands (because cats hate loud noises,they will probably scram after you do that)

I was recently thinking of you and wondering how the darling little Pumpkinettes were doing. Did you find good homes for the others? Any new pictures to share? (Sorry, no suggestions to help with your OP.)

Here, lemme get that for you: ^ the two pots ^ I believe this is a Painted Lady succulent (If I'm wrong please correct me!) It seems to have some brown shiny spots on the leaves. Is this because of too much sun? ^ It also has some spots on the stem, too. Another thing to note is that when I had it outside for a day the stem itself turned a dark purple hue. Is that normal, or is this just getting too much sun/water? ^ A Kalanchoe, I think, and it's suffering from black spots all over the leaves. The black spots also seem to lack any water in them. Too much sun again? ^ these are called calico kittens, right? These were probably in the worse state compared to the other succulents; the pot was waterlogged and nearly all of the stems were dead. In fact there are only 3 surviving ones left now, the others all succumbed to rot. Are those white spots on the leaves normal? Or is it something I ought to be worried about? ^ You can ignore the pinkish fella to the left of the photo, he seems to be doing fine. The one that has the strange wrinkly textured leaf is what I'm worried about; it was a set of 3 of those succulents (I don't know what they're called) and they seem to be dropping a lot of their leaves. They seem to suck the water out of the leaf first then it drops off shortly after. But the wrinkles are different, and worry me a bit. Too much sun? ^ Baby toes. It was pretty badly overwatered originally, and I think it's definitely doing better, but I do wonder if the biggest toe is going to be alright. It's turned slightly pink and the underside seems to be scarred a little. ^Oh, and one of the toes also seems to be having issues near the base of one of the plants. Is it going to be alright, or should i pluck that toe off and hope it comes back? It looks like rot but the toe itself still seems to be alive. I am so nervous. The owner is being presented with the offers right now. I hope she goes with our offer... Fingers, toes and eyes crossed. Hoping we aren't up against a group of investors with all cash.

We adopted kitten sisters about 2 1/2 years ago. I knew that they were coming from a home where the owner worked with my daughter. I was told that they were 6-7 weeks old but later found out that they, actually, had been adopted by another co-worker but her other cat didn't like them so they were returned. They had stayed at the original home for another week before we took them. According to the vet they were just 6 weeks old when we got them so that meant that they were four weeks old when first adopted out and then five weeks old when returned to the owner and then six weeks when we got them. So much turmoil for such young babies! One of the sisters (Lucy) was friendly at first and now is rather aloof but will come for cuddles about twice a week. The other sister (Lola) comes daily but had the habit of always nursing on herself. When we first got the sisters Lola would try to nurse on Lucy but that only lasted about a month before she would have none of that. Lola will do this every time she is on a couch, chair or bed. I know it is a habit but we have not been able to break her of it. Believe me we have tried! If she was quiet about it that wouldn't be so bad but she is just noisy and wakes us up so she has to leave the bedroom. I feel badly because she would like to stay in our room but we wouldn't get any sleep. I hope that this behavior stops for you but there is no guarantee. Obviously, my kitten sisters were taken from Mom way too early and this has manifested itself with this behavior. Robyn

Um, this entire post is about me being OUT of the house during a showing, what the heck are you talking about? Let's not turn it into something it's not. The only reason I was home that day was because the realtor was an HOUR and 15 minutes late. I was bringing the animals back home at a time she should have been long gone. Ummmmm considering you mentioned this in your OP: Both my husband and I work full-time, and we have 2 dogs and a cat that have to be taken out of the house during showings. For that reason, we've been trying to schedule showings in the evening when we're both there, but for these people, I agreed to have them come this afternoon. - It was perfectly legit for me to comment on the fact that you are home during showings since you, yourself mentioned it in your OP - that's what I'm talking about. It was fair game and if you didn't want advice on it, then you shouldn't have mentioned it. Moreover, I stand by my original statement - you could be hindering the sale of your home by being present when buyers come through and by having such restrictive notice for showings regardless of the reason for it. In a perfect world, but unfortunately, not everyone is able to leave work at the drop of a hat. I'm not, nor is my husband. He's a Director, and I'm a VP, we have very demanding schedules. If I had my druthers, I'd only have showings in the evening, but I realize that is unrealistic. I guess we should quit our jobs so we can be available to get our pets out on 1 hour's notice. Yeah, that would work! Why do you have to leave work? Do you have a lockbox? Can you crate your pets? The fact does remain, you can very well be hindering the sale of your home by being present for showings and having unreasonable notice requirements. It can indicate to potential buyers that if the seller is not flexible in showings in terms of notice and having to be there when they view the home, they will wonder how inflexible the seller will be should they make and offer and go through the whole process to buy the home. People are trying to give you honest advice and feedback. Responding rudely is not appreciated.

Thanks Plasticgarden, I'll try doing that; I checked on the Net and got to know that giving them something soft to chew on should help too, as they're teething. I'm gonna stuff some old socks with pieces of soft cloth and freeze them for a while and give them that for chewing. It's supposed to relieve the pain/irritation that goes with teething.

Sheltiemom, thank you for thinking of us! Although I don't post here all that much, I think of you quite often, and Jas and Coco know that you're the one who gave them the name Pumpkinettes :) I hope your babies are doing well.

Yes, we found good homes for the other five in Dubai, and Mum is in Abu Dhabi (we shifted here from Dubai about 3 months ago); she's with a colleague of DH's, and is doing really well. I love that lil girl. We boarded them all for 4-5 days when we went to Oman - and they returned with a giardial infection; was a nightmare pilling them - only Coco takes her pills without fuss. When Pumpkin was nursing the little ones she got real thin, but after we got her spayed and the kittens weaned, she's put on weight and looks awesome now. I'll upload some recent pics and post 'em soon.

Jas-purr has been having problems off and on after the Flagyl treatment; now Jas's stool has been sent for testing for Tritrichomonas foetus (there was blood and mucus in the stools), Coco has been throwing up and getting the loosies too after the spay procedure - she was on Metacam, and that's probably what's doing it. Well they're both on probiotics and chicken&rice meals and I'll start giving them a bit of pumpkin from today onwards; I'm really thankful to Lisa for the info on pumpkin therapy for cats. She has started a separate thread for it, it's right on the first page.

Hmm I don't usually talk so much in the mornings LOL - but just wanted to tell you, I got a job at the vet's clinic just yesterday! I'll start on Sunday - can't wait!!

My latest rescue kitten has a big oral fetish due to being bottlefed. My neighbor who rescued her, and does a lot of fostering of abandoned litters, says this is pretty common. She licks anything she can get to, and loves to lick my face (which I discourage :-) ) - the face thing I think is because of the early imprint during the round the clock bottle feedings.
