13 year old Siamese peeing on bed/outside litter box
Comments (4)If you truly want to find her a new home, contact your local rescue groups. If she's healthy, a Siamese cat shouldn't have problems finding a new home. I don't think it's fair to even consider putting her down since she only reacting to the stress of another cat, new home & location, being locked in a basement and then locked in the bedroom. Plus, she probably doesn't see you as much as she used to. On top of all that, she now has the additional stress of your response to her accidents. If you really want to keep her and intend to move as soon as you find a place, then I'd suggest finding a pet boarding facility that houses only cats. My local Cat Clinic boards cats......and they each get a nice room with a large viewing window. I think it'll be less costly in the long run....See Morecat lovers: where did you put the dreadful litter box?
Comments (43)Wow! Thanks to everybody for all of the your creative suggestions!!! I am still debating on the better location. It's either going to be in the garage or the basement bathtub (that no one EVER uses). For what it's worth, we use Tidy Cats clumping litter and it seems to do the best job for us. I also installed one of those intermittent spray air fresheners (runs on batteries and hangs on a simple nail) just over the tub where their box is. That has made a great deal of difference...but It's not enough to make me want a litter box off my foyer anymore! Natal, thanks for asking about the basement. It really got me rethinking my position on that. My reasons for avoiding using it as a litter spot is that since our renovation, the basement is just soooo nice now...I just hate to have that durn box, the scattered litter, the smells, etc. down there! The only place it can go is the tub though. My concern with that is that the tub is acrylic, and I am afraid of getting too many scratches. But, I'm thinking that if I get a couple of throw rugs to line the tub and lay over the edge, it might not be a problem. Now I'll just have to find a way of keeping them from clawing up the leather furniture that's down there...(maybe we'll have to re-try Soft Paws...hmmmm...) Sujafr, Thanks for the warning about losing the fire-rating on the door to the garage. I would not have thought of that in a zillion years. Hmmmmm...now that option does not seem so great. My DH will certainly hate the idea knowing that little tidbit. I'm glad I did not do my usual thing and just impulsively hack a hole in the door! Jeanne gallo--wow!!! That little cut-out for the kitties is awesome! I so want that in my next house!!!! Do you mind if I save a copy of the photos?? Thanks again, everybody! You guys are THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...See MoreCats suddenly peeing outside litter box sometimes- LONG!
Comments (5)"Any thoughts? Suggestions on how to get them stop? Aside from getting rid of dog :P I've read some about wall plug-ins that emit a scent that is calming to cats- but it looks really expensive- not sure I could afford that, especially if it only works for some cats." Too many times this happens, people simply MUST have a puppy then wonder why the cats don't react well. That dog needs to be absolutely contained when in the house. You have effectively displaced the cats with the unrestrained dog, and their reaction is completely normal. What you need to do is get the cats to the vet -NOW- to rule out physiological damages caused by the traumatic upheaval in their home. You really don't have a choice, the cats need professional help. The dog needs to be restrained and trained from the moment it enters the home til the day it dies. You need vertical elements in the home so the cats can escape the dog and maneuver the rooms without needing to use the floor where they're just going to be chased. You need to restore their former litter pan and substrate, and please add at least one, and preferably two more pans in different areas where the dog cannot waylay the cats. The pheromone plug-ins seem to work wonders in homes with only a few cats so you owe it to them to at least try it. Not being able to afford these steps means that you cannot afford to have pets. You're not being fair to any of them if you cannot afford their needs. Yes, I am being harsh, but I don't believe in glossing over terrible mistakes. I've seen far too many cats thrown out by people who displace them with puppies. Your responsibility is to the cats FIRST....See MoreCat isn't using litter box now!
Comments (10)It all depends on the cat- De- clawing itself is very stressful and should be illegal, so thats a lame statement (unless stressed)- it all depends I've seen cats that were nice without claws and others that bite and are ruined. Kind of like russian reulete, you know the idiotic game where you shoot yourself to see if it clicks harmlessly or fires a bullet hole right into your head. Older cats should have extra boxes, I think your moving boxes was a great idea, as she gets older she could loose control of the bowls, so a box on each floor may be needed. good luck and Mary Xmas/Happy Holidays....See Morejomuir
