GE Monogram Appliances

Does anyone have experience - good or bad - with GE Monogram appliances? In my experience, they are of the worst quality on the market. My appliances are now 4 years old and starting to fail. The fridge has never kept a constant temp, the oven takes 36 minutes to reach 350 degrees, and the dishwasher leaks. Last week, the gas cooktop shorted out and burst into flames. It was not even on at the time, and I thank the Lord that I was home or the damage could have been much worse. GE customer service explained that while not common, any electrical appliance can short out with normal usage. (How many of you have had kitchen appliances of any brand catch on fire when off??) They want several hundred dollars for the repair, which I refuse to pay, especially after the GE repairman stated that with the Monogram design, it may happen again. I plan to replace the entire suite, as budgets allow, with higher quality appliances. Did I just get a set of lemons, or do others have similar experience with GE Monogram?

I have the GE Monogram four burner (36") gas cooktop two+ years and love it! No problems so far.

I haven't had any problems with our GE M. SxS or dual fuel range. Got F&P DD. We've been in the new house 4.5yrs.

Mine are 2004 vintage. Love the 6 burner gas range as every burner has high btu and good simmer. Flipping a grate for wok is cool. The grates on the newer models feel flimsier. The oven is okay, it has three racks, but they are too close together, wound up taking one out. Temperature control and distribution are fine. DW is good. Very quiet, cleans well, cycle takes a long time on the air dry phase, and there is no way to turn it off. Refrigerator over under- no issues except hard to keep freezer drawer organized. MW - no issues. Hood- no issues. They all look Beautiful and have required no repairs.

Hi. I'm new to this forum, and I've really enjoyed reading through many of the old threads. I've learned a lot from you. Like many who post here, I'm choosing appliances for a major kitchen remodel. Now I'm focusing on cooking appliances. Looking at features and reliability issues I've narrowed my choices down to the GE monogram ZET2 ovens and ZGU385 36" 5 burner cooktop, or the Electrolux (not ICON) EW30EW65 oven and EW36GC55 cooktop. On the Monogram all 5 burners are dual stack with simmer, so I'm leaning toward that one. The oven also seems excellent, but I like the look of the Electrolux better (love that blue inside). I also need an island type hood. Many of the existing posting on these appliances are 2 - 4 years old. I'd love to hear any new updates and opinions about these appliances. Thanks for your help.

I should have mentioned that we also have a GE Profile CD FD refrigerator w/a water-only dispenser & we've been very happy w/ours as well...after adjusting to the counter-depth. Fingerprints aren't much of an issue. I clean my SS appliances w/either Weiman SS cleaner/polish or Pledge in the brown can every couple of weeks and they look fine. The cooktop is solid black w/a SS rim. The SS rim scratches easily and it's the only appliance that I have a cleaning issue with...the solid black shows all the streaks, etc. from cooking so it has to be scrubbed every night...and something appears to have stained it as I can't get it off w/a razor blade or cleanser. My old GE Profile convection range had a speckled top and it was a breeze to clean and keep looking good. When we gave it away last year it was 13 years old and still going strong! (It's one of the reasons I got another GE Profile this time around...) Eventually I want to get an induction, but they also have solid black (or white) tops...no gray speckled! I'm hoping in couple of years they'll have one by then... However, I did not get a GE DW as I had so many problems with my old one. I had to replace it after only about 3 or 4 years...after replacing the motor once during that time. We replaced it w/a Maytag that was also going strong when we gave it away last year. We got a KA Architect Series DW...but I'm not happy with it either...it doesn't clean the dishes unless I use the "Heavy Duty" cycle. Our vent hood is a Vent-A-Hood and our MW is a Sharp MW drawer...we're very happy with both of these.

I could write a book on how disorganized, deceitful, dysfunctional and disappointing GEMonogram is as a company. How do they go on selling products? I have had my side by side refrigerator replaced twice for free thanks to them determining the fridges were both broken by a GE certified technician and now they are on the third visit to repair the third one! I have lost so much food and time and money on this. Their service guys even know the products are the worst. And last year my duel fuel slide in stove had to be entirely replaced after only 7 years and being very gently used, at a discounted price of 1200.00! after one of THIER service guys broke the Venturi Tube, a tiny 18$ part during a service visit! Do yourself a huge favor and stay away go from anything GEMonogram. They are the worst.

we have their fridge, electric oven, microwave and dishwasher in our
home since December of 2004 when we built the house...

Fridge: no problems
Microwave: the lights burn out from time to time - but otherwise - no problems
Range/Oven (all electric) - big burner does not heat - have not had time to get it fixed - otherwise - no problems

DISHWASHER - THIS IS THE BEST FREAKING DISHWASHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!!
We had a Bosch before this one, and the GE is 100 times MORE QUIET than
ANY OTHER DISHWASHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! 1000% LOVIN IT!!!!

ALL IN ALL - OUR Monogram appliances are pretty good! Dishwasher is AWESOME!!
You CAN"T HEAR IT when it's RUNNING!!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!!!

We have the Monogram 48" SXS Fridge, warming drawer, and Microwave/Convection oven. We have had no problems at all...I'm so sorry to hear you have had such issues!

How timely a thread! I was just cursing at my Monogram piece of **** dishwasher with the third touchpad failure in 3 years. I am trying to decide whether to bite the bullet and order another touchpad (I know how to install them at this point) or get a Miele. It doesn't even clean the dishes on top of it and it never has. The dispenser is always full of detergent (and I use only a TB) and the the dishes are dirty. Plus, my cabinet panel cracked in half because the steam generator in the door was leaking. The tech guy told me to call GE insurance since it was a defect but I don't think I am keeping it so it's not worth the aggravation.

However, I LOVE my 3 year old GE Monogram range. But, it was actually a rebranded DCS at that time. It does take a long time to preheat but that's part of the tradeoff with a 36 inch oven I think. They are now made by someone else so I wouldn't buy that again. I think I would go with Wolf or Bluestar in the next remodel.

My Monogram compactor (a rebranded Kitchen Aid it turns out) motor failed 3 weeks out of warranty. When I was told the price of the new motor ($800), I freaked out on GE and they actually replaced it for free. Sometimes, freaking out helps. The fact that it is Monogram means you so get slightly better warranties and service when you complain.

My Advantium touchpad died also 3 weeks out of warranty too but has been okay for 2 years.

I am at the point where I don't know which brand of appliances are actually designed to last. I will likely handwash dishes for a month or two and spring for a Miele. Consumers need to get tougher on these companies. I expect an appliance to last between 7-8 years-I don''t think that is asking a lot. But it seems like 3-5 years is what you get nowadays.
