Actually, if you look a the Monogram & Profile offerings you'll note that in some cases they're identical except for external look & price.

For example, when I was shopping for ovens, I compared the GE Profile & GE Monogram Trivection double ovens. I could not find anything different except the Monogram came w/a roasting pan and the Profile did not (GE started charging for roasting pans about three years ago.) So, I called both the GE Monogram & GE Profile people and both said they were identical in functionality and internal makeup. When I asked the GE Monogram folks why the Monogram was so much more expensive, they got a little defensive and said I should be happy to pay the difference b/c I'd get a more professional look and a more prestigious name. Well guess what...I prefer the look of the Profile...the handles aren't as flimsy and I preferred the curved look to the sharper ends (less bruising when you bump one!)

That is a great point. I looked at the Profile range but really disliked the butterfly-ish look of the grates on top! I was so bummed about that. I like the Profile full-depth SS FD refrigerator because it has no dispenser in the door--never again.

I have the GE Profile French door fridge with no dispenser (counter depth)and Profile Trivection double ovens. Both are SS and I'm very happy! They are right next to each other and look great!

The Monogram and Profile induction cooktops are pretty identical mechanically, too. (I did have to splurge on the Monogram hood I wanted because it has a better fan than the similar Profile, but it's an odd one.) I wouldn't pay extra for the Monogram name unless it had additional features. I'm not sure my circle of friends would be impressed--it still says "GE" on it!

I should have mentioned that we also have a GE Profile CD FD refrigerator w/a water-only dispenser & we've been very happy w/ours as well...after adjusting to the counter-depth. It took a little while since we went from a 35 cu ft standard depth to a 21 cu ft CD...it helps that we put our old one in the basement.

With the exception of the cooktop, all are SS and are very easy to take care of. Fingerprints aren't much of an issue. I clean my SS appliances w/either Weiman SS cleaner/polish or Pledge in the brown can every couple of weeks and they look fine.

The cooktop is solid black w/a SS rim. The SS rim scratches easily and it's the only appliance that I have a cleaning issue with...the solid black shows all the streaks, etc. from cooking so it has to be scrubbed every night...and something appears to have stained it as I can't get it off w/a razor blade or cleanser. My old GE Profile convection range had a speckled top and it was a breeze to clean and keep looking good. When we gave it away last year it was 13 years old and still going strong! (It's one of the reasons I got another GE Profile this time around...) Eventually I want to get an induction, but they also have solid black (or white) tops...no gray speckled! I'm hoping in couple of years they'll have one by then...

However, I did not get a GE DW as I had so many problems with my old one. I had to replace it after only about 3 or 4 years...after replacing the motor once during that time. We replaced it w/a Maytag that was also going strong when we gave it away last year. We got a KA Architect Series DW...but I'm not happy with it either...it doesn't clean the dishes unless I use the "Heavy Duty" cycle.

Our vent hood is a Vent-A-Hood and our MW is a Sharp MW drawer...we're very happy with both of these.

I ended up with a GE Profile FD fridge w/water only in the door....love it. It is right next to my GE Monogram Trivection Double wall ovens (I got a great deal on a floor model, so I couldn't pass them up, but I like the Profile styling more). For fridges/ovens I think the two lines are comparable.

However, for the cooktop, there are differences. I got a GE Monogram cooktop. It had a better set up than the profile and higher BTU's, with all 5 burners having the simmer feature.

Went with Bosch DW, because I loved my last one.

Becktheeng...does your cooktop have a "bridge" element that bridges two elements for using a griddle? That was my #1 requirement when I was looking at cooktops. I have to admit I didn't check out the Monograms since I found a Profile w/it and Profiles are less expensive.

But, I was looking at the Induction ones today and didn't see one w/a bridge element in the GE Profile line... I'll have to check Monograms. (I did see one in either a Viking or Thermador, but they won't fit my current cutout plus they're more expensive and I'm having a hard enough time convincing my DH that I "need" induction!)

Buehl - this was a key consideration for me as I wanted to be able to use my griddle which fits over to burners. I had a hard time finding a cooktop that would have high btu's, simmer on all burners and could fit a griddle. Another key seller was that the arrangements of the burners made it easier to use more of the burners at one time. I brought my biggest skillet in and placed it on the middle burner and still had room for my medium stock pot on the outter burners. Way better than the arrangement on my old Dacor. Also, I liked how the knobs were up front...I was concerned that I'd burn myself on the profile knobs between the front burners...I'm a klutz so I have to be careful about these things.

The monogram can fit a griddle that sits on top of the grates on either side (I tried it at the store), but I don't think it's a true bridge. I haven't had a chance to use it yet as it just got installed yesterday.

I plan on trying it this weekend if I can find my griddle in the garage. I'll give a review if I get a chance to use it.

Oh! You have a gas cooktop...lucky you! No gas here and DH did not want to put in an LP tank...so we're electric all the way! If I had gas I might not be in such a hurry for induction!

That explains it...I would definitely have considered induction if I only had electric. But I've gotten so used to cooking with gas and I really enjoy it.

I've about decided (finally) to go with GE Cafe on the dual fuel range and hood because of the porcelain tops, five burners, and appearance. The fridge will still be profile with internal water, and the Advantium will be Profile because, as you said, the only difference in Monogram is appearance!

I had to get the Monogram ice maker because it's the only one GE offers and the only thing my husband wants in the new kitchen:). Thanks for all your help!

kitchenjam - This is late, but if it helps I had a Profile full depth with internal water for four years (till I moved) and loved it. Never had a problem. In my current narrow kitchen, I need a counterdepth french door fridge and I am so bummed that this style Profile does not come with internal water. (I'm trying a KitchenAid instead). I think you can't go wrong with any GE range.

I have the KitchenAid 30" gas 5 burner cooktop in SS and just LOVE it! Very easy to clean and heats up very fast. Very roomy for 30" too. Better than I expected!
