Maybe I'm being dopey, but are you talking about siding shingles or roofing shingles?? My first thought was siding, but not sure where you'd be putting them.

This is very general, but I think a soft color that gently transitions from the brick would be best. A strong contrast, either too dark or too light, would break up the planes of the house & make it look too squat & boxy: a rectangle with a cap. A softer color would give the house a little height. Look for a medium color blend that works with the brick.

I'd suggest a brand and color, but colors are never true on a computer monitor. You're better off bringing home actual samples to compare with the brick.

Sorry, I don't think the roughness of the shake shingles works with the house. It looks too busy and leans toward the rustic rather than the classic traditional I see in this house. I think a mid range charcoal would look nice.

I was looking at Certainteed Landmark and was thinking either the Heatherwood, Burnt Sienna,or Weatherwood. What are your opinions? I am not sure of the brand he will be using, but most use Certainteed around here.

I always say that the darker the better.The contrast really classes up a house I have had 3 brick houses with one brick being a really orangy brick. I cant remember the brand aND COLOR BUT have found that this one which is a shingle/shake & has black, charcoal and brown was the absolute prettiest and got compliments all the time. I disagree about the too busy look for your brick. your brick is NOT a busy brick at all and with the addition of those colors I suggested and maybe changing the shutters to black, you will add so much to the resale value of your house someday. Its a very classy look. Good luck.

I would also suggest that you have them run an A frame entrance over your front door. It looks like you have a brick landing. Put up a couple columns with heavy piers at the bottom. Just use regular posts and have them build out the bottoms with extra lumber. It will make it nicer to have a porch when you enter. Plus it will give your home more of a presence.

I would also look at the presidential triple certainteed shingles. I would suggest the shadow gray. The gray won't show dirt as bad as the black and it will blend well with your brick color.

I have my final estimate on the roof and the guy should be bringing me some samples. I will try to post pics against the brick to get final opinions. I am planning on painting the shutters too(thanks for the opinions), but am still unsure what color front door. It has the half moon glass in the top and is a wooden door. Thanks!
