You probably need to see your Doctor. The reason I say that is, my Doctor told me that pain in the back can be a "heart" issue. It can also be a lung issue.

I take Prilosec for Gerd, Doctor's suggestion. Very effective!

Yes, I have GERD and when it flares up it does make my back hurt, among other things. I take prescription strength Pepcid, which works well for me.

Prilosec would be even more effective, but I'm one of the unfortunate few that get a side effect of abdominal pain.

I avoid alcohol, chili pepper and certain other foods that bother me. I don't eat a lot late at night. We have raised the head of our bed with phone books so it tilts upward.

I have it too. I started taking Protonix last week, but it gives me gas and diahrrea so I quit taking it. So, I quit drinking caffeine. So far so good.

Yep, was diagnosed with GERD a few years ago. First tried me on Protonix, it didn't work very good for me. I finally wound up on Nexium which helped me much more. However, the Doc also diagnosed me with "spastic colon" and prescribed Hyoscyamine o.125mg. My life saver as it turned out. Yes, I was having severe back pain. Thought a few times that I was having a heart attack. The symptoms are so similar. Now I'm down to a Nexium a every other night and a Hyoscymine as needed. What I have noticed that sets me off, other than an emotional upset, is raw onion. I guess everyone is different. Good luck in finding what you need to get it under control.

Do you eat lots of black pepper? My DH had gerd for years, he finally quit eating black pepper on his food. No more tums, and he went through 2-3 rolls a week.

However, as a retired RN, see your doctor, please. So much involves gastro. Hope you feel better soon.

Dh has gerd and Barrett's esophagus and takes prevacid ( only thing that works for him) He has to have surgery for the barretts but have to wait awhile being he just had heart surgery again. He elevates his pillow to help.
