Texas Tour Kerrville (2 pictures)

The past 5 days have been a whirlwind. Sorry it has taken me this long to get pictures posted. We have been staying up until late visiting.

This was the first day of the tour and everything went like clockwork. We were exactly where we were supposed to be all the way.

We arrived in Fredericksburg just before 4 and visited with Buzzard. We wanted to see her beautiful home and have time just the 3 of us. We hadn't seen Buzzard alone for several years so we had a lot to catch up on.

When we were ready to head to Kerrville I gave Ruthie a call to warn her we were on our way. She was so happy to see us, we got big smiles and lots of hugs. She has a beautiful home also and we enjoyed relaxing out on the deck with a cool drink. We played with Molly their Australian Sheppherd and she enjoyed all the pats and belly rubs.

Ruthie's husband, John, came and sat with us. He is such a happy go lucky guy and kept us laughing. After we had visited for a little while John fired up the grill and cooked hamburgers and asparagus. We kept him company and also took pictures. They live out in the country and it is so peaceful and quiet.

Us gals went inside and helped Ruthie get things set up for dinner and of course kept yacking and laughing. The phone rang and we were trying to figure out who the mystery person was on the other end. It was Brat Kat wanting to get in on all the fun. I think her ears were burning, you know our cats alway curious and hillarious.

Buzzard had to leave after dinner since she had to get up early for work the next morning. Ruthie, MaryAnn and I stayed up until after 1am chatting and having a wonderful time. Poor MaryAnn was having a hard time keeping her eyes open but she wasn't going to go to bed and miss out on anything. lol

Ruthie made a wonderful breakfast for us and we laughed some more. Sadly it was time to leave since we had other places to go to on Wednesday.

Thanks so much Ruthie and John for the great visit and and Texas hospitality. I will be sure to stop by whenever I am in the area again.

I love seeing the pictures and the stories...Sort of feel like I'm going on the tour too....(In my wishes)

Please tell me....Who does John belong to....he looks like a keeper.

Christopher, thanks. We could do that. If you come after the weather warms up bring your version of a "tucker". Kitty, that little history of colonial dresses is SO interesting. I never knew about "tuckers", but you know those hard working ladies had to do something to help them keep cool! I loved hearing about one way they did it and seeing your photos. Thank you!. You know, I can remember EVERY nook, plant, and cranny of my grandmother's yard and house -- better than I can remember houses that i've lived in as an adult. I also remember the mischief I got into like chewing off one of her elephant ears to play with and how my tongue swelled up.. It's a wonder it didn't kill me ... lol. Thank you Daisy and Bluegirl, and everybody, for your kind remarks. It's been fun getting to know you all better. I heard a simple quote once, but I guess it was the Knowledge in which it was said that still moves my heart. "We're all just people here." So simply and yet so sweet. Sara Ann, I hope you join the Tulsa Rose Society if you do not already belong. Feel free to email me, and I can give you specifics about joining. I would love to meet you. Exhibitors plan their exhibits. They often have roses that they groom specifically for show. When they plan for an exhibit, they may prune off much of a rose, so that the rose can put all its energy on a few, then on one bloom. The "art of exhibiting" is its own special talent or art. It is very interesting, and fun to be involved in for someone like me who mainly watches in amazement. I have many photos in HMF, and so do many who post here. I just catch a pretty photo by chance. I used to spray, and could grow most roses. Now I do not spray, and mainly grow certain categories that do not require spray. I will never grow so many roses that others grow, but those who exhibit may not enjoy the type of garden that I love. I live in a suburb on the east side of Tulsa - almost in the city. They main thing I need to do to be successful is to keep a hose inside in the winter, and hook it up on pretty winter days to water. Last year was the first true drought that I can remember since the early 1980's. I was too busy to ever even purchase a new hose and hook it up. I left all my hoses unattached, but on the ground. I did not water. There are very successful rose growers who belong to the Tulsa Rose Society. They can answer so many questions about rose growing. The meetings are on a Sunday at about 1:00 or 2:00 at Woodward Park. My email is attached on this forum, I think. Feel free to contact me. Sammy

Ovilla Garden Club Tour/Plant Extravaganza June 2

I *am* exhausted! & sunburnt! (went out there on an overcast morning, wearing a scoop-necked top, forgot to notice when the sun came out. duh.) The gardens were *gorgeous*, of course, & the swap/sale was loads of fun! We had a woman who sells plants/bulbs/seeds on ebay, the Master Gardeners had a booth, Waxahachie High School had a booth, there was a "flea market" with proceeds going to the Garden Club,...can't remember everything. The brown bag lunches were very good (& the Club now has arrangements with the to-go barbeque place to take up the slack in case they run out of food in the future!) I moved a lot of plants in pots, so my summer watering schedule is considerably eased (sold a few & traded a few.) This was the first time my friend Vi had been to the Tour & sale, & she had a great time, didn't bring very much but took several things home. Unfortunately, although the Extravaganza continued until 4 PM, Vi had to leave early to help her husband with a garden project, & my sunburn began to really burn & nauseate me, so I left a little later, by probably 2:30. Lots of nice people, helpful hands all round-several of the guys helped with loading & unloading, setting up tables, etc, & one kind person gave me some lotion for my back. It was great! can't wait til next year... (when I'll bring an extra shirt & a hat & some lotion!)

I had such a great picture of Ruthie and John, but there were light circles on it for some unknown reason and one was right on Ruthie's face. :o(

Nita, I haven't responded to all your posts here and other places, but I've been watching out for them and posts made by others on the Tour.

Thanks so much to you and others who are keeping us updated and sharing the pics of you great folks. Such great memories are being made.
