Louvre Shop, Mr. Shutter, Norman Blind Plantation Shutters
Comments (0)ANyone familiar with this company? I am in the market for shutters for a second home we just built in a resort community near the beach. I am pretty set on PS since it will also eliminate my having to have a fabric treatment in the short-term, if at all. I also looked at Norman Shutters which were ok - not happy with the full overlay and how they jut out of the window. I cannot do an inside mount, unfortunately, due to the variation in size of the four windows and because I have tilt-in windows for easy cleaning. They strongly recommended an outside mount for better light control, too. I also looked at Mr. Shutter and a local company who makes the shutters locally. He does not use a mounting strip like Norman shutters, but uses a trim that is attached to the existing frame and then mounts the shutters. The window trim would be partially exposed, but the trim he uses would jut out about an inch, creating a not-so-clean look, since his trim piece would not completely cover the window trim. Interested in hearing which brand shutters you have, inside or outside mount and if if you are happy with the quality. If you could post a picture, that would be great!...See MorePlantation Shutters & Colors
Comments (40)I love plantation shutters (softened with curtains, not standing alone, please!) and intend to install them in our new house -- we don't have the right windows for them in our current house. Yes to white shutters and white trim. These things aren't cheap, and white will see you through any changes in color scheme you may make later. Also, most people go with wooden floors -- your room can only take so much wood tone. Break it up with white. I'm confused about details though: - Wood, vinyl, or composite -- which will last and be the best value? - Is a plantation shutter in the bathroom (obviously not in the stream of the water) doomed to water damage? - I'm assuming it's cheaper to install the shutters AFTER the build is over -- not the builder himself?...See MorePlantation shutters on sliding doors and ? on windows
Comments (3)Rosemarynjf, What did you decide to do with your windows? we just ordered plantation shutters for two sliding glass doors that face front and also for a large 3 section casement window in the same room. I’m a little nervous about how different it will look since we have just had white curtains for years. Do you have pictures of your shutters on your sliders that you can share?...See Moreplantation shutter question
Comments (7)IMO nice solar shades for hest and UV control allow you to keep the view . where i live we also get a great view of city lights so I never close my drapes but if nightime privacy is a big deal then just use the solar shades all day and close the drapes at night . I have never liked plantation shutters and was removing them a lot in Calgary 20 yrs ago so I am always surprised how many US posters are still using them. They block view are a PITA to keep dusted and so heavy looking too. BTW yes in the South where there were actual plantations and aslo a long time ago there are so many great ways to get window coverings now...See MoreUser
