Do your cabinets have trim to cover gaps?

User

While taking my kitchen apart, I have been kind of amazed at the gaps between cabinets and between cabinets and the soffit. This one is the worst at top

The side fit against the window trim pretty well, but there was still a piece of cove molding there. There were also flat strips between cabinets, even the ones that fit so well I couldn't even see where they joined.

I know something has to go back around the cabinet tops because of gaps like I showed, but what about the sides? Is that normal too?
