I love these old pictures of your family. I can't get over the size of your Grandmother's waist!

This seems to be the only photo of my Mother's great-grandparents. This is a photo of the photo she has framed.

Wow, Linda, you've got me beat for old! Her dress and hair look like Civil War era. They're a beautiful couple. I hope you'll save the picture by digitizing, even if you just use your camera as a scanner for now.

This little girl is probably 90 years old now. But, that Koi Fountain was still there when I was a little girl. In 1980's renovation it was removed much to my dismay.

My maternal great-grandparents: Don't know approx. what year this was taken. They were long gone when my DM was born and she was born in 1924. I'd have to look up dates but I'm too pooped right now!

I know a woman who could be your grandmother's twin, she is my sister in law.

I can't get over how beautiful the women are. The only pictures I've seen this old, the women look so hard and tired.
I've got to learn how to digitelize old photos? Any hints?

Leslie, the best way is with a scanner, and I bought myself a good one that will handle my dad's negatives and slides as well as prints. But it's still in the box waiting for my DS and me to create a place to set it up. So I simply used a digital camera to photograph the pictures I posted above.

Another thing I haven't opened up yet is the book I bought on using Photoshop to retouch and restore old photographs. One of these days . . . maybe after I set up the scanner. :-)

I'm enjoying seeing everyone's photos, so I'll post another. This is Twinkie's paternal grandmother when she was a child. She died in 1953, the year before Twinkie was born, so he never knew her. We gave her little old wardrobe (chiffarobe!) to his DD and she has photos of her great-grandmother on top of it.

This is a picture of the above shown grandmother, her husband and two of her children. The baby in her lap is Twinkie's dad. He was born in 1916, so the photo was probably taken late in 1916. Doesn't the little girl look like her mom?

Thank you so much for showing these old photographs. I love looking at them. Have you noticed that most of the people never smiled in old photographs. I wonder why.

A lot of the old photographs required a time exposure which meant that holding the same smile for several minutes was difficult. A relaxed face was easier.

This grandmoter was a plain little lady..always wore the "grandma" shoes and that apron, but she picked out the neatest gifts to give a girl....like the evening bag with gold sequins when I was ten...

I was thinking of the waist on that one picture...they used to "girdle" the ladies down in order to get their waistlines to look like that...as we all probably knew. I was in a museum where they had the wedding dress of Wild Bill Hickock's daughter. That dress must have had a fifteen inch waste. She fainted often and died young. Think how those things would squeeze your guts up where they weren't supposed to be. I doubt that mine could be compacted "that" much, but I'm sure it would hurt....

That's a great picture, Maybee, and how neat that your grandmother gave you such fanciful gifts. If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have thought she'd be much more practical.

Oh, I agree about the corsets! I can't even tolerate a tight waistband on my jeans. Poor Bill Hickock's daughter! I guess it's a blessing that my grandmother had to retire from the stage when she had children. She did go back to it later, but I'm guessing her laces weren't too tight after that because she lived to be 88. And never fainted, to my knowledge. :-)

This is really wonderful. I have some old ones, but I've never been able to figure out how to make the scanner part of my printer work. I've really enjoyed all of yours.
