I agree with lazygardens. You can't change the past and no matter what, she was a part of it. You can change the future by not making him miserable about the past. You are his wife - don't be sensitive about it. She was special to him at one time and they made a beautiful child together. Things changed and now YOU are his world. I would resent someone that wanted me to throw out my memories. That would be so hurtful to try to take away a whole portion of my life. I had a wonderful time when I was a single girl and met and dated many wonderful people with whom the relationship did not work. Doesn't mean that I love my husband any less because I enjoy the happy memories.

Garages are a place where most people keep junk or things that are not used often enough to be placed inside the house. It's also a place where most people keep their garbage until it's garbage day. The pictures are actually in a perfect place! It's been reduced to being a part of the room of trash! If it were in the house, then I would say that's unacceptable. But it's in the right place!!! Don't worry about it.
I kept some photos of my fiance and his ex. Funny thing was-they never had any family photos taken... but the pictures that he did have were of them when they were younger as a couple. I kept a few, threw out the rest. You can't erase the past..and someday maybe the kids will want to see it. If not, we'll chuck those too. One thing I did to feel better about those photos-I stuck them into a storage container with pictures of me and my past with other boyfriends. Then I felt it was even and I was more relaxed about it.
If your husband displayed them on a bookshelf then you'd have reason to freak....but this is nothing!

Eezel ... why are you feeling so threatened about some pictures? The past is the past and you cannot change that. Those pictures/memories belong to your husband and his kids, and nothing you can do will erase that part of their lives. Nothing. And you don't have the right to ask them to throw those pictures away! That's would be so wrong. And I don't agree that they belong in the garage. You are saying that their memories are worthless and you don't care if their momentos are ruined. Wrong attitude.

My husband's old family pix are stored in a box inside, but out of sight. Do I make a crinkled-nose-yuck-face when I see them? Of course ... and I also think "what WAS he thinking when he married her" ...but I do not feel threatened by them. Grow up!

mom_2_4, you did not read my original post well enough apparently. I never asked my husband to throw the picture away (he assumed that's what I meant when I asked why he still had it). I only asked him if he'd give the picture to his son to take home with him. I also never asked him to keep it in the garage, but that's where he put it. I also never said I felt threatened by it (I most certainly don't - he HATES that woman), but I did want to know what the etiquette was for this type of situation. If put away in a box in the house is the correct way, then fine.

Your hubby may not have a good word to say about his ex, but it is you who wants the pictures to go away ... think about it.

No, you did not actually say that you are threatened ...I read between the lines (what can I say, I'm a closet psychic!). And you also said ...

No communication and secretive over some pictures? Hmmmm ... it seems like you are obsessing over this. Let it go, really. You'll be glad you did.

As the popular book title says "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff" ... 'cuz in the grand scheme of things a few pictures of ex's stored somewhere in your house doesn't mean a hill of beans if you are secure in your relationship.

Pictures like that keep popping up at my house too. Ex had even put some in my car one time when the door was un-locked. It depends on my mood. Sometimes, they just go in the trash. Sometimes, I put them my SS room.

How about just mailing them to you SS?

we have many pictures of my dh and the ex, saving them for his kids until they are grown. these include an incredible amount of wedding pictures. he is very sensitive to my feelings about these pictures and keeps them out of the way. i am in agreement with him though on keeping them. if we sent them home with the kids now, the ex would either destroy them or something equally unfair to the kids. although i am a little jealous of them, the kids deserve to have the pictures. they need to know there was a time that their parents were in love and happy.

Pictures are nothing, I had to watch their home movies of my husband kissing her under the mistletoe.
