what finish for hardware throughout house w/ stainless appliances
Comments (6)My honest opinion is to get what you really love, and don't worry about matching everything. I think there is something particularly charming about a home that is a bit eclectic. I know in the home we are building, there will be black iron, brown iron, brushed nickel, and oil rubbed bronze. I love all of those finishes and wanted to incorporate them in my home. If you love gold toned finishes and antiqued brass, use it. The fact that you love it is so much more important than what "they" say is "in". And who are "they", anyway? Just wait until gold toned finishes regain their popularity, which they eventually will. Then think of how forward thinking you will appear:-) Good luck! Comments (5)theresse there are a million different recipes for stainless and they all result in color variations. I'll bet you want a white cream variation, closer to nickel than to chrome (which is white-gray color) If anyone starts giving you numbers you can go look them up. Wikipedia. Wweb searching to see other articles of the same stainless number. (But screen color is never real color). E.g. 304 - kitchen grade -- but there are many variations in color. E.g. 316 - marine grade, usually darker and grayer. Sheet nickel is hard to find. Therefore you want stainless. Yes, but the right color. It is folded around something to make it appear as that thickness. Therefore, it could be made 3/4" thick not 1" thick. Even 5/8" thick. Or less. Saves space for you. No need to imitate the thickness of a stone. Stone cannot be made thin. (It can but it will crack at some weak point or fault line sooner or later.) Not to imitate the thickness of stone = letting steel be what it is. hth...See MoreCream cabinets & antique brass hardware anyone?
Comments (6)You can definitely mix finishes and I agree that the antique brass would go with your granite, floors and sink. Go for it. Your kitchen will be unique. I like the look of antique brass and have seen some pretty faucets that come with that finish also. My only question is does antique brass have to be polished like regular brass?...See MoreKitchen done (almost)
Comments (60)WMA89 - Oh, thank you for the island size info and posting a photo of those lanterns. They look really nice. Your kitchen is really nice! Love the range/hood area and how the tile and everything goes all the way up. Would you mind telling me the height from your pendants to the island? And the dimensions read that they are 22.5" Hx12.5" W. Are they really 22.5"? Thanks for the heads up about the light being bright. It was also mentioned on O that you could remove the side glass. Do you think that would help the issue? Would the light look ok without it? Does the glass slide down in from the top? - I know lots of questions! Busy - How high are your chandy's from your island? I don't think the can of air is going to be the answer either. It would probably be best to have help for taking it down to clean. I'm pretty good at rigging stuff up and making things work so I'm wondering if I can make a duster that I can run along the sides without taking it down as often. It wouldn't be a perfect cleaning, but it might make the time between thorough cleanings longer. This is what I keep telling myself! I'll wait to order anything until the appliances are in and the splash is painted. I'll revisit the idea of the other lanterns and some chandeliers. I like the hundi style enough that I'm hoping this is that one thing that may require more effort, but I'm ok with it because I like them that much....See Moreitsallaboutthefood
