Winter PICS! One from everyone!
Comments (28)Here's my little cottage garden all buried under the snowdrifts! It's a brand new garden as of last fall. I cannot wait until spring to see what it looks like in bloom, and to go get the rest of my plants from my old garden! Thankfully, the person who bought our house does not want any of the plants, and told me I could come back in the spring and get the rest of them....See MoreThe I like EVERYONE thread!
Comments (19)Jeez Ricky! That's a shame you had to deal with all of that. I'm sure we all remember "Son of Sam" and I truly feel for you that you had to deal with that monster in any way. Well, we all know you here and know you're much more Jimmy Buffet than that creep. Very unfortunate you had to have your name attached to that in any way. Doesn't surprise me though that the NY Daily News didn't check their "facts". The Daily News and the NY Post have always been in competition to report any news they feel fit to print, regardless of the source. I was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, raised in Summit, NJ and I can remember when I was pretty young, the NY Daily News featured Jane (Jayne?) Mansfield with her severed head, airborn as she was the passenger in a fatal car crash. Front page and in color if I can remember correctly. These guys are only looking out for themselves and their next bonus. Shock value is important to them. I'm sorry they messed with you... Sue (I was born in '56, lived here since '76, so I'm sure we share many of the same local events of the day back there in the NE. So glad I'm here and not there any longer!)...See MoreTornado Check-In Thread: Is Everyone OK?
Comments (21)Thank you, Carol and Susan for your offers of plants and seeds, but I'm going to stick with what I have this year. It just isn't going to be a very good summer for growing stuff and I figure I just might as well accept that and go on. You are wonderfully kind and I appreciate you so much! Dawn, I'm sorry to hear that your fruit is on the ground, too. I still have peaches and apples but I don't know for how long. The storms stayed south of us yesterday and we didn't even get rain, but did get more wind. NOAA has changed its forecast for my area, we may not get rain at all out of this, although the sky looks like it might rain any minute. I do feel so sad for all those who have lost so much. Makes me feel a little selfish for complaining about just losing plants and fruit. Yes I am familiar with Neodesha. They and Coffeyville were hit so hard last year. It sounds to me like the college jumped the gun on getting student housing cleaned out. The house next door to us was reposessed and some people were hired to clean it out. It was a MESS! They told me they stored the good stuff away until they had enough and then they would have an auction. So tell the kids to watch the auctions, maybe they can get some of their stuff back. I was born in Iola, KS and my dad was a truck driver for awhile. Neodesha was on his route. A few years ago I worked in an ophthalmology office in Bartlesville and we had a pediatric specialist that would come from Tulsa once a week. I would do his dictation and he would pronounce Neodesha as Neo DEE cha. The first time he did it I went "WHA.....????", then when I realized what he was trying to say I nearly rolled in the floor. Generators can be really dangerous things, especially since people tend to try to run them somewhere in the house. That's where the carbon monoxide comes in. We have one but we keep it on the back porch. The last time we had a power outage here, it lasted for about 24 hours and it was bitterly cold outside. We didn't have our generator then and we got by OK by wearing our coats and bundling up when we went to bed that night. But mostly I worried about our water pipes freezing. Now with the price of gas the way it is, it's going to be expensive to run a generator. I hope everyone stays safe, all of you please be careful and keep track of the forecasts for your area....See MoreThe 'I'm tired' of everyone being unique thread
Comments (100)I have antique ironstone, antique hutches and English/Irish pine tables found at fleamarkets and antique stores, as well as many CL finds that I've refinished/reupholstered. They're all mixed in with newer PB and RH pieces and Hubbardton Forge lighting that may be considered trendy but aren't to me because they suit my style. DD's changing table was an early American drysink that I loved but unfortunately no longer have a home for, so it was given to a family member to use in her new baby's nursery. An antique dresser that DH modified with a copper vessel sink is now a vanity in my powder room. My favorite piece of furniture is DD's antique iron bed from the 1800's, which is exactly what I would have loved to have had as a child. My second fav piece is my RH reclaimed pine dining table. I'll probably keep most of the items in my home as long as they last. Not making any effort to be unique - I try to buy only what I love. Rarely does anything leave my house after it comes in! My sister is the opposite - she gets bored with her furniture after a few years so she isn't as inclined to spend the effort refinishing furniture or spending extra on quality hardware. She has a beautiful home!...See Morestjohnrocks
