? about deep counters -- 30' ??

So I've got the message that counters deeper than 24 can be very beneficial. And I started playing with the idea with graph paper. I found a design that I think may work - thanks to the idea of of a deeper counter.

So, my question is... I've heard "30 inches" thrown around - does that mean 30 inch base cabs - so with counter overhang, 31.5 inches?

I did a very quick "mock up" pretending that my counter was 6 inches deeper. BOY, did that give me MORE SPACE! But my concern is, can it be too deep?

I realize with a 31.5 in deep counter, you would increase the uppers (say to 15?)

I am 5ft 6in. I do have long arms. But those who have deeper counters, how does it affect your reach into those uppers? That was a little harder to "mock up" the scenario.

I am really hoping this works. I desperately want space to the left of my cooktop, but it's just not wide enough. By deepening the counters, even though I may not get the width I want, the depth will give me the "spread out" space I'm looking for.
