Has anyone seen kitchen shelving like this?

I'd like to install kitchen shelving on one side of my cooktop like these seen in Katydid's kitchen:

Does anyone know where I can purchase shelves like these? I know that Pottery Barn used to have them but when I checked the website, they don't seem to sell them any more.

Those are just a standard wood bracket. You can get them at home depot in a couple of sizes. You just cut a plank to fit the length. If you're not a DIYer, any handyman or carpenter could put it together in a minute.

I made a small one for my kitchen. I used project laminated pine for the shelf.

Cute. What a great kitchen! I agree with Budge1, should be fairly simple to replicate those shelves.

Is your oven in yet? :-)

LOL......well, it still could be Chinese or Japanese if it comes from Pier One, I thought it looked modern and really it's the perfect size for swishing your mouth out after brushing. It is not any traditional shape I've ever seen, and God knows I have followed my mother through enough little pot shops in Asia. You may be right about the mark, Linda. But, if it's modern and Chinese, it's for export and they love to put China on the bottom of the ware. I do have a sake set with a very similar finish. It's a popular one in Japanese ware, the subtle pocks with relief on the shiny finish.

What about 2x6 tile? We had already decided upon this size, and then during our demo, we found 2x6 "tile" anaglypta wallpaper in the kitchen. I felt like my choice was vindicated! (I have a 1910 foursquare). Here's a link to what we're using. It's a crackle tile made by Walker Zanger. We went with Heirloom White, but there are several color options. It is a desk which may have been brought home from Asia after WWII. It has what appears to be braided stick rattan legs as well as the foot rest/brace at the bottom and the sides with a dark mahogany top. I have searched for hours for anything like it in the USA and Asia and Japan, but there's nothing out there. I sure would like to find some history about it. I believe my great uncle brought to the states to give to his parents, my great-grandparents, all long deceased.

If it is a must have, you could look into plating. I had some vintage sconces and other hardware that had had plated in the finish I wanted.

IKEA has something similar in two sizes,

If you google wooden brackets, a few sites will pop up that have unfinished brackets similar to those. we were contemplating open shelving for a long time and found several places that make them.

we also found a carpenter on etsy (based in WV) who made similar brackets for a very, very good price (his name escapes me).

budge1, thanks! I'll ask my carpenter if he can make some brackets for me. Now I'm thinking it would be neat if I could get some marble shelves made from my leftover backsplash slab to go on top of those brackets ...

I love those! That is what I am going to be using for all of my upper shelves. I cannot wait! I think it has a definite wow factor interesting look.

I know Ballard Designs has some cottage shelving with cool brackets. I love that look-that's my next kitchen!

That's a gorgeous kitchen and I'm glad you posted it because I was wavering in my long-held plan to use white marble counters and white cabinets. This encourages me!

As for the shelves, I second what others said about them being an easy and inexpensive DIY project, or hiring someone to do it. Just keep in mind that Katiedid NOT use standard "one by" lumber, which is 3/4" thick. It looks like "two by", as in a 2x4, which is about 1 1/2" thick. This is important, as it gives a more substantial look.

Regarding katiedid's kitchen. I emailed her yesterday asking about her island design and she responded very quickly. She said she should have more kitchen pics up in the next few days.

Erikanh - I'm sure if you emailed her she'd be able to tell you exactly what she did for her shelves.

aktillery, didn't you just finish that gorgeous kitchen that everyone is copying because it looks so great? Are you moving and starting over with a new kitchen? Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

I have kitchen shelves on either side of the cooktop, but the supports are internal so the shelves themselves appear to float. There is a very flat xenon light strip in front that is not visible because of the design. When the wall was open the brackets (angle iron?) were attached to the studs. THe cabinet maker met with the contracter as the brackets were going in to make sure everything would go smoothly. The shelves were then attached to the brackets and a thin wood skin applied to the underside of the shelf so the bracket is not visible at; the shelves appear to float. Using the invisible brackets attached to the studs allows me to put a fair weight of dishes on the shelf.

That kitchen is gorgeous! I dont have any suggestions unfortunately, but Im anxious to see what you find. I need to figure out what to use for the open shelving in our kitchen. Im torn between using white or stained cherry to match the island.

I've got these open shelves. My GC built them. He just bought standard brackets and stained the brackets and shelves to match the existing cabinets. I'm still figuring out what to put on them!
