Anyone have Crossville brick mosaic BS in unicorn? pics?

I have been trying to get a sample of this (Crossville's modern mythology collection, 2x4 brick mosaic in the color "unicorn")from 2 local tile shops, and it's been 2 weeks and I still haven't gotten the sample yet. Besides, it's hard to get an idea of how a backsplash will look from a little sample, so I wanted to see if anyone has used this tile, if they could post pics as well as their thoughts on the quality. Thanks!

I have a 12" sheet of it. I'm thinking of using it for my kitchen splash too. I don't think it's real carrera as the background is a creamy white and real carrera is running very gray now. It's very pretty with minimal veining. Some tiles are a little more gray, and some a bit warmer. Whatever veining is there runs from a deep beige on some to a gray on others. It looks very much like the photo on the Crossville site but lighter and not so creamy.

If you want something more white and gray Oracle stone (on Ebay) has a 1 X 2 mini brick on mesh for about $8-$9 a sf.

Blondelle, thanks for the reply. I don't really want much gray--a little is fine but I really would like something with a creamy white background with various shades of beige throughout the majority of the pieces, and just a little bit of gray mixed in. What do you think, does this description come close to the unicorn sample you have? I do need it to have a significant about of beige. Plain white would not work for my kitchen. I realize that it's hard to tell from just one sample, and the beige may be a bit more pronounced and noticeable once all of the tile is installed. But based on your pieces, do you think this could be what I have described? Thanks again.

I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am to see that countertop backsplash combination, I bought that slab a few weeks ago and have searched until my head aches to find a suitable backsplash. Jaynes123 "Until GW, I wasnt even aware kitchens had BSs," Same here. The only backsplashes I saw in newly remodeled kitchens were the same granite as that on the counters. Then I see all the posts about backsplashes here in GW and folks asking again and again what kind of backsplash should I get, or does this or that look good for a backsplash. I asked my wife, "What the heck is going on in GardenWeb and all this "Backsplash thing". She says "Some tile sales folks are hanging around and all they gotta do is convince a person or two and the rest follow. That was probably close to 10 years ago now. We see it over and over again, first White kitchens, Now gray. Now everybody must have an Island~~~~and on and On it goes~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I guess if you are a "Follower Type", all is well and good. But I've always done my own thing and will continue to do so. I will say that one place GW was a lotta help and Yea I did follow, was with Induction, Luv it!!!!~~~the other "Stuff", not so much ~~but ~~~~~that's just this old guys opinion, not necessarily right or wrong! Oldbat2be, I love your taste in tile...both your stunning backsplash, and also the photo you posted above with the botanical focal tiles. As we consider our kitchen update, I keep coming back to the idea that the area over the range is an opportunity to let some of our personality through. I realize the pitfalls of going too far toward "personal tastes" for resale, and/or looking outdated down the road, but then I remind myself, removing a tile mosaic or medallion is not exactly a horrific job, if a future owner isn't in love with it. (And you know, the whole "life is short" thing.) My kitchen has a low ceiling so I'm hesitant to do any backsplash design except a fairly monotone treatment, under the cabinets...most any kind of horizontal line of contrasting color might emphasize the horizontal, instead of the vertical. So the area over the range keeps appealing to me as the best possible focal area. I don't have experience with using travertine stone over a range, and I'm thinking the cleaning might be an issue. I'm leaning toward some kind of decorative mosaic design using smooth tiles, and I've wondered about using the epoxy grout I've read about here (supposedly pretty bulletproof as far as staining and cleaning, although more expensive.)

The combinations are beautiful but I am completely confused ... there are more than just two tiles and two mosaic boards in the pictures: There is the LA, a simply gorgeous beige limestone looking tile (is it a limestone or is that the crossville tuscan clay?), a long & narrow set of big tiles with what I think is a crossville tag (which means my beige limestone tile hasn't been addressed at all :-( ), and there is also a crocodile tile there. Then there are the two mosaic boards. So, I can't really figure out which of the figures your four options refer to nor where would those be used. For my part, I LOVE the Labrodor antique tile and I assume you're considering that for the counter (Check and I approve ;-) ). I also love that beige limestone looking thing - but don't think that should be a counter option if you're considering it for there - make it the floor and you're a-okay in my book. Don't care for the long narrow big tile especially if it replaces either of the other two. The mosaics - both are gorgeously beautiful but if callieandkarin say that theirs is the WZ weave, then the bamboo weave gets my vote although the other is lovely too. With the LA, though, I would double the vote for the bamboo weave as it will complement the LA and not fight it for independent validation. Beautiful choices. But please, what is that gorgeous limestone stone/tile???? I need to know this!

I wouldn't say it has a significant amount of beige. I would say of all the tiles on the sheet only 2 or so have the beige veining. The rest is a gray vein here and there, and maybe a touch of beige in others. You might do better with a crema marfil or botticino tile if you want beige, or a light travertine.

Look at the tile used in this thread from the tile shop. If you want the white it has more beigey tones. It might be the same marble though as the Crossville but a different size. Not sure.
