Are they offering the chairs too? I love the backs of those chairs.

The breakfront looks very, very, very big. I'm thinking its profile is too bulky to go with your more refined Queen Anne table, but I took a family breakfront which didn't really go with my table, and I don't care. It was the only piece of good furniture my MIL had, and I wanted to care for it. If this is something you and your DH want, you can make it work, even if you have to paint it.

BTW, will your dining room accomodate such a large piece?

Remember, too, that you don't have to use the piece in your dining room. It would make a terrific bookcase/supply cabinet in an office or storage in a den. You could add an opaque film to the glass to hide the items stored in the upper portion.

Thanks, Dee, but the chairs, table and buffet are moving with them. They still plan to have family dinners and holidays for their family of seven children, spouses, grandkids, etc!! The breakfront will definitely fit in my dining room. In fact, my existing china closet is just a tad too short for my dining room, which is about 16 x 16.

I am thinking of taking it - it is a lovely piece and holds many memories of dinners at their lovely old home. The wood definitely blends. I just wanted to hear from others if it will look like a pink elephant since it is not an 18th century piece. I may change the hardware, though. Any suggestions???

You know, I think I would find some pretty aged brass handles that fit in the holes you already have and call it a day. I would also fill it with some pretty, colorful pieces to freshen it up. Maybe they have some pretties they want to get rid of, too????

Yes, Dee, aged brass pulls would look great - definitely do not want polished brass.

I would suggest posting a pic of your existing DR & note where you plan to put this piece. Perhaps a fellow GWer can photoshop it in place.
My concern would be the size & scale - that piece is huge

It is really not as large as it looks - 73-3/4" long, 21" deep and 7' high. My china closet is about 62" long. I will post pics later of the dining room. It would be great if a fellow GW could photo shop in the room. Wondering if Squirrelheaven is still contributing? She helped me a great deal several years ago.

I was also going to suggest swapping out the hardware. It is a lot of wood, though I definitely would take it and try to make it work for sentimental reasons. Is the top detachable? Another option would be to just use the base and skip the top. The top would actually look good too as a curio cabinet with some bun feet on the base. Think outside the box!

Good idea, Valinsn, but I need the top to store my silver, china, crystal, etc. That is what appeals to me - the top has four shelves for storage/display and the base has dividers for trays, platters, as well as pull-out shelves. I will utilize every inch of the space. My china closet only has three shelves and it is not as wide. Great idea, though, for a curio cabinet. I am inheriting another piece similar to a curio cabinet without the glass.

New hardware is a must! The more I think about it, the more I want it. It holds so many memories of family dinners, wedding showers, baby showers, Christmas eve dinner, etc. I am not one for matchy-matchy or a contrived look and I do like blending antiques with newer 18th century pieces.
