With everything going on I keep forgetting to check this side of the fence. It took someone emailing me last night to hop over. Thanks everyone for your warm wishes. I don't mind birthdays, considering the alternative, as long as I get the royal treatment. You are never too old for cake and presents! fairegold - Yes we are so lucky to have such great weather here. Enjoy it while it lasts. The rains are coming! Donna - How are you with all that snow? My in laws said they got several inches, over a foot or more in Mt. Prospect. My DH wishes he could retire too. That was the plan a long time ago but things change. sjerin - Yes it was the one of the best presents I have received for my Bday. Mari - Thank you for the beautiful picture and thought! Just what I needed at 5AM. Long story. Clare

Luigi, I'm glad to have made it to the celebration. We had a snowstorm that knocked out our power for 24 hours, so it was hard finding a singing frog trio at such late notice. Thankfully, this guy was available. Hope your day was joyful! Sol

Thanks to all of you for your good wishes. Most of the snow had gone by yesterday, but we had a bit more, overnight - for which I'm thankful ... for when I backed the car out of the shed and returned to close the door ... there was a slim trail of brown stuff going out to the car. I backed it up a bit ... and there was a brownish pool under where the motor had been. Was it oil? If so, and I drove it ... soon no oil and seized engine. Brake fluid? Tranny fluid? Drove running engine uphill, coasting down, about 8 mi. to the church to have coffee with the old guys. No trail anywhere near where I entered the parking lot or under the car. Drove to the other church, 5 mi. or so, to tell the minister of an interesting speaker, Naomi Klein, on climate change and our current world situation in town tonight. I was noticing that the gas gauge seemed to be dropping much more quickly than usual. No residue trails visible ... but I'd coasted in. Drove ... carefully, through town, in case the droppings were brake fluid ... to the garage. Fuel filter rusted out, must be replaced, along with some of the gas line. Fifteen minute walk to the library, to talk to you guys ... and it's about time to wander back, as they may have the car fixed. Good thing I visited the bank yesterday, as I was almost broke, before. Thanks again for all of your good wishes - I value my relationship with you folks, some of whom I've met IRL. ole joyfuelled ... with a bit o' fuelling help from gasoline ... and furnace oil

Wow - Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes and the beautiful rose card.

We went to our favorite restaurant,"The Greek" in downtown Santa Cruz. All the food was great, but there was no heat! We all were freezing because it has been rainly and cold here. I couldn't wait to leave and turn the car heater on high. I don't know why a lot of restaurants around here don't turn on the heat in the winter. We are Central Coast CA not Southern CA!

I asked about the birthday cakes because DH said he would make one. I wanted something different then my usual, but not too difficult. I decided on carrot cake from our own carrots, because it was relatively easy for him to make. He is not a baker, but it came out great. I think this was the first time ever he used the Cuisinart to shred the carrots. He thought it was great until it came time to clean it all. LOL!

I'm sorry I missed this on Sunday,Clare. It sounds as though you had a good day, except for being cold!

Happy Birthday and warm wishes for a good year.

From a Southern Californian where it was in the mid-40s today. Pretty chilly for us.
