Just last nite DH and I watched Dear John. It a very good movie.

What other movies do you recommend? Either chic-flicks; feel-good movies or good suspense/drama ones.

Taking Chance with Kevin Bacon and While You Were Sleeping with Sandra Bullock. Two totally different movies. While You Were Sleeping is one of those movies that just gets me. I think I've watched it 20 times. Every time I'm scrolling and see that it's playing, I'll watch it no matter what point it is at. Taking Chance is a beautiful heart touching movie.

Seed companies you'd recommend/small grower

Johnny's, Territorial and Harris are the ones I've used the most who sell in small amounts as well as big. Seeds of Change is very good but has a very limited selection. Burpee (limited selection also) is okay although their prices are a bit high. Stokes and HPS offer small amounts of most of their seeds although they market more to big growers. I don't order from Park anymore - germination of a lot of their seeds is strictly iffy. I rarely order from Thompson and Morgan, for the same reason, only worse. Sometimes I'll be tempted by some of their really unusual things, knowing full well that it's a gamble as they may not germinate at all. Pinetree offers REALLY small amounts, for the small home gardener, I guess, but I rarely order from them any more either. They tend to send stuff really late, past even my ultra-late start times, no matter how early I order. Their seed is usually pretty good quality, though, so if you plan to start something late or even the following year (in the case of sunflowers) Pinetree is okay. Germania has been one of my two biggest suppliers, but now that I'm going to be just a home gardener, I may not be ordering from them at all. They have small amounts available in a few things but not many, and minimum packet price works out to be high for small amounts of seed. Still, they may have a few specific things I really want, like for instance seeds of a specific color of a specific series of columbines that I want for my yard/cutting garden. That's still cheaper than buying them already grown at the garden center, assuming I could even find that specific a plant at any local garden center (really bad assumption). Germania doesn't have a minimum order requirement for seeds. Jeanne

I'm really enjoying my new Echinacea 'Razzmatazz' -It's kind of whimzical. So far too, I like the show that my Gaura 'Siskiyou Pink' is putting on here, its first year. Oh I love Heuchera but am having such a difficult time with squirrels (I think) digging them up. I lost a 'Monet', an 'Amber Waves' and a 'Palace Purlpe' after repeated vandalisms and salvaging-replants. (He's left my unknown green-leafed Heuchera alone, go figure). The plants don't seem to be eaten, just tore into and strewn. A good friend recently suggested sprinkling blood meal around the plant as it's worked to deter rabbits from nibbling on her roses, so I have, around a new $3 'Purple Palace'. I don't dare spend $$ on the more expensive varieties I'd like to have until I find a way to foil these foliage-fiends. Razzmatazz:

Maxmom, I agree, The Devil in the White City is not fiction. It is what is what I call "historical fiction". Though based on history (and a lot of it for sure) there are obviously things in the storyline that are unknown to the author, especially in the serial killer's private life. What makes this story a little less like a true historical fiction is the fact that all of the main characters were real, not created in the author's mind, but I still see it as historical fiction. when i was home from school (a number of years ago!) i worked at a deli. i sliced stuff all day and well into the evening. never had an accident as i was absolutely certain i wanted to keep all my fingers in tact. that said, the pro models are as safe as they come (for something meant to slice through a 20 lb slab o' beef like a sheet of paper) so they are HEAVY. they don't move around at all or jiggle. they're not really meant to be moved around a lot so i'm not so sure you'll be able to find a true professional slicer that will be convenient for home use. i wish i could give you more specific info on models, but i never really considered bringing one home with me! will you let us know what you come up with?? good luck!

we watched Water for Elephants last night it was very good.
I like Steve Martin movies he is such a funny guy, loved Brining down the house with Queen latifa.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Notebook. It's my hands-down favourite movie.

We've seen several of these mentioned, but there are some that we haven't.

I'm thinking along the lines of movies in the past few years. We haven't seen anything the past few years. Dear John was a movie from last year or 2010, and it was good.

Another one that we saw that is a couple years old is Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. It was really good too.

The Help got really good reviews, but I haven't seen it. The book was wonderful!

I just finished watching "Tower Heist" and really liked it.

"Bridesmaids" is funny, but be forewarned: There are a couple of scenes that are either gross (in a "gross funny" way, perhaps) or have sexual language you might blush at. But the actress in them did get an Oscar nomination!

Also: "The Visitor" -- maybe a little more serious than what you're after, but a really good movie.

And for a tearjerker: Something from 2000 -- "Frequency"

And yet another one (they are floating through my memory slllowwwly!):

"Return to Me" with Minnie Driver and David Duchovny and Carol O'Connor (from "All in the Family").

(That's one of the movies that if I see while channel-surfing, I will always stop to watch again and again.)

Sweet and funny and some really "awwwww" touching moments.

(JASDIP: With all these great movies mentioned, it's possible we won't hear from you for months!)

Frequency was a good movie. Scent of a Woman (1992)was awesome. Also loved Shining Through (1994). These are older movies, but I watch them every time they are on.

Armageddon, with Bruce Willis if you like action stuff. Also like all the Die Hard movies, all the Alien movies and all the Predator movies.

Oh, thought of another one, The Skeleton Key.

Ok...no one mentioned "Amelie," the sweetest, wackiest, most wonderfully romantic French film in years?

Also, "The Ilusionist," with Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, and Jessica Biel. A turn of the century romance-mystery-thriller.

Finally, "Hugo," Martin Scorsese's latest film, about an orphan hiding in the attic of a Parisian train station, and trying to cope with life. If this movie doesn't charm you, check your pulse...you may not be alive.

For suspense I would highly recommend the Count of Monte Cristo, Silence of the Lambs (such a no-brainer maybe that's why no one recommended it) and the Hand the Rocks the Cradle. Another suspense movie, really old, would be Dial M for Murder.

Oh, Hand that rocks the cradle....I remember that when it first came out. Dial M for murder, isn't that the original one that the Michael Douglas movie was based on? I love him!!

I never have seen Silence of the Lamb....am I the only one in the universe?

When I see and think of Kathy Bates all I picture is Misery!! Remember that movie???? with Paul Newman. Wow.

Dolores Claiborne, with Kathy Bates. I like her in anything; this one is a favorite. Gritty, though.

Nobody's Fool, with Paul Newman. Fantastic cast, great dialogue.

I love the original Dial M For Murder, with Grace Kelly and Ray Milland. Elegant in that special Alfred Hitchcock way. Watched the remake (Michael Douglas) and found it a literally bloody mess; in the end, who cared.

Jodi, it's definitely worth watching. Both Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson were really good, as were all the children.

Ok, if we're going back in time and you want a thriller, check out Rear Window with Jimmy Stewart. Was my fav movie when I was a kid.

And speaking of going back in time ... gotta watch Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

I just finished reading Dear John and noticed that is on FX tonight at 7:00 . I plan on watching to see if I like it as well as the book. I do like N. Sparks books but I am usually disappointed in the endings. Evidently I am not realistic because I like happily ever after sometimes.

Jodi, Rear Window is one of my favorites! Also, Goodbye Mr. Chips (the orginal). Very old movie, but so touching I cry buckets each time I watch it.
