Tapla and Justaguy, I wanted to point out your dislike of organics in containers was reaffirmed by Ray's experiment. I know the problems associated with using organics in containers and that researchers have tried to obtain results equal to conventional methods with much tweaking of the organic systems and have had some success. But Ray's experiments last year certainly back up your contentions in other threads that using organics in containers would give disappointing results. At least it certainly did using Fox Farm vs the old formula of Tomato Tone. The old T.T. formula was a mix of synthetics and organics and look at the results in Ray's picture--the tomato with lots of fruits on the right (TT) VS the pitiful organic one (Foxfarm) next to it that you can barely make out. Even Ray's miracle gro soil mix WITH fertilizer did not help Fox Farm. Now having said this I have had good results growing certain vegetables organically in containers. Perhaps they would been bigger with synthetics but I was happy with the results. I certainly would not be happy with the results that Ray got with Fox Farm and was surprised the difference was that dramatic. By the way I use both synthetic and organics fertilizers but I am interested in improving organic results particular when told it just can't be done. Any chance that some of the non-plant ingredients are soil-type microbes that would help the organic fertilizer breakdown and be utilized in containers? Ray, I also noted the change in the formulas on my old bags of TT and the new. I was disappointed that they did this as I liked the higher potassium and the synthetic components ameliorate some of the organic drawbacks. I already had Plant-tone if I wanted to go purely organic. As far as your new experiment, it will be interesting to see how the new TT with all the biological microbes stacks up to the old. Also the ferts, in the Miracle Gro are long gone now and won't impact the experiment.

I don't have great before pics but here are a few - think of the weight loss pictures - the pre pictures are always fuzzy and the after pictures are always clear and better shots! We were also away when they started - so didn't get to see the first dissection of the soffits (but I saw them through the holes) One plumbing run and vent to outside inside soffit (pre) Same area post (but still not finished - the vent is still in place) Second drain run post - but still needs to have the bracing added Copper pipes re-routed through beams (used to go around beams and through soffit - we had brass craft PVC pipes that were replaced when they all sprung leaks at the joints) The duct work also went through this soffit - this is before demolition Kentucky7 - thanks - love your state! We have a leather chair like that, like bbstx mentioned, and the associated giant square ottoman. I think it was called a "Poet's Chair" or something like that, and it was all the rage in about 1996. I got it at one of those pick-your-swatch leather stores. It was pretty much a knock off of the old RH "Buster" chair, which I am sure was a knock-off of something else. It is a great napping chair, but the plaid is just wrong. In fact, I'm thinking any fabric -- except maybe a nubby linen -- is just wrong.

By Morton Keller The American colonies were not like those in other parts of the world. Royal governors came to plunder but found that American planters and merchants could not easily be bossed around. Sir Danvers Osborn, a Briton who was made governor of New York in 1753, was so upset when the New York assembly refused to support him in the style he felt his rank deserved that he asked: "Then what am I come here for?" At which point he hanged himself. Morton Keller, a history professor at Brandeis University, likes to take the long view. Other chroniclers of American history talk of "ages" (Reform, Gilded, Jazz etc) that lasted no more than a decade or so. Mr Keller sees continuity where others see helter-skelter change. "Americans like to think of themselves as a people eternally young. But the reality of our public life is very different," he writes. The constitution, rarely amended, is nearly a quarter of a millennium old. America's legal system and political parties are among the most durable anywhere. Even in the revolution against King George and his pesky emissaries, Mr Keller sees not a clear-cut break with the past but "the product of nearly two centuries of colonial experience", in which the settlers took old-world ideas of liberty and expanded them.
