Maybe Exochorda? It's also called the Pearl Bush. Its flowers grow in clusters, bees love it, and it likes moist soil, which would make it ideal for growing out by the lake, but....it could also be Physocarpus, which is native to most of North America. There are various colors, but I believe the wild ones may be white. It's also called Ninebark. The more I think about it, I think it would be more likely to be Ninebark. Huh, interesting. I've not seen - or at least paid attention - to these. Here's the first I found that has a metal base and an insert. RE: it being silverplated, do you mean the whole thing? Or just parts? I can see maybe the 'pewter/brittania' gray parts, there is some shine to the outermost edge. But there's no evidence of any residue anywhere on the body like it wore off. What I'm trying to say is the metal is quite clean as-is. (Tho something did throw me a bit. The base looks brass, but if you look at the underside of the base, it's got patina like copper and under the patina is both gold and hints of copper. Thought that was odd.) Unless somebody did something to strip the plate off intentionally?

Wow! OA guessed it right off! I thought it might be disguised better than that! DD, lots of times you end up with left over glasses after others have broken, so this would be a cute way to make use of them. This was just a clear wine glass--Jaybird is right, it's the more sturdy bigger around type. I bought this one from the TS for 99 cents. I painted a coat of Folkart glass and tile medium on it which made it look sort of like frosted glass--then I added two coats of white acrylic paint to make it into the bunny. It's not for drinking out of since your lips would touch the paint on the outside. I'm thinking about making a couple more to give to my neighbor/friend gals as a little Easter gift. Jeanne, you are right, would be cute for a party decoration/favor. Punk, don't you just love the wired ribbons? So much easier to arrange nicely. ;o) Like I said, not my original idea--I seldom have those! But I remembered seeing it and decided to try to make my own. Glad you enjoyed seeing it. Luvs

Oh - you want to know what the object is? Gee, that's a little harder and your cryptic hint about being surprised has me stumped. So it might be a trick photo. How about a deer's foot?

Well, yes, Lydia's right about it being some sort of root. It looks like wood, it feels like wood, and if you rap your knuckles on it you'd swear you were listening to wood. But I never expected this particular stem to be so woody.

Mcmann, I thought it looked something like a deer's face.

You're all so close, I think it's time to tell.

It's the base of a large (12' tall) sunflower. I was amazed to find the bottom of the stem so rock-hard and wooden.

Wow! This is all I have as reference for a sunflower. :-)

I tried to grow one in my office last July and took a photo of it every day ... until it keeled over a died. :-(

The model man's arm shows how tall it was the day before.
