Polaris Hot Water Heater Noise Issue

After remodeling our master bathroom, installing a rain head in the shower and a large tub, we quickly discovered our 40 gallon Home Depot hot water heater had to be replaced (could not take a shower or fill up the tub without running out of water). The Polaris was recommended and $5,000 (or so) later, we now have endless hot water with a 50 gallon tank. Alls well that ends well...almost.

When the unit was installed, the plumber chose to vent it out of the side wall of the garage (where the unit is located) versus venting through the roof (we have a two story house). No problem for us, but our pain-in-a?! neighbors claim that the noise is so loud that they canÂt sleep  a bunch of hooey. Unfortunately, they are making a big deal about it. We contacted American Water Heater and they had us remove a piece to reduce the noise (later they will send us a filter to replace the missing piece). The sound is different, but I fear it will still be too loud for our picky neighbors.

IÂm wondering if anybody else has faced this issue with Polaris and if there is anything else that can be done for the noise.
