Where'd my good girl go?

You know, I am pretty proud of myself and my pup! She is 6 months now, pretty active, although she is sometimes lazier then our cats! hahaha! She is large, about 70 pounds now. She used to sit, stay, roll over and was wonderful on the leash! But now...she is a Holy terror!!!!! LOL! Where did my sweet little girl go who used to do everything so wonderfully?? lol! I caught her on the kitchen table tonight mowing through the left over salad! She also stole a whole turkey leg a couple of weeks ago right off the counter! In front of my husband! After he chased her downa nd got it back, she tried for the other leg! Yikes!

She also ate a couple pairs of socks out of the laundry basket a few days ago and a pair of shorts! Chewed them to bits even though her chew toys were right there beside her.

She peed on my daughters bed today! Never did that before! She pooped three times...count em'- three times on Friday in the house! This is the puppy who never, ever went inside before!! Ok maybe a few accidents when she was teeny tiny, but to actually poop in front of me?? never! She also refuses to sit when I say it. I have to say it a couple times to get her to do it. And walking on the leash is a nightmare! She pulls, jumps and tries to grab the leash and shake it! This is not like her. She is usually really good on her leash and heels really well. We play with the ball almost every night for a half hour or so outside and last night she got the ball a couple of times and then completely ignored me. It was like she snubbed me! lol!

The only change we have had in the last 3 weeks was the kids going back to school, but honestly she gets more play time now when it's just me and her here all day. She has had no food changes, no new people introduced, nothing different to cause stress. We have to go and get her nails clipped next week so I will talk to the vet when I take her. But inthe mean time, I am just stumped.

Is this just a puppy thing? Will she revert back to her old self again anytime soon? Or will I be stuck with puppy from hell for the rest of her life? hehehehehehe! Ok she isn't that bad, but she reminds me of my almost teenage son! Is this her rebelling teen years already? LOL!

She's just a puppy who has learned how to control the household............and is doing a very good job of it.
If she just 6 months and is 50 lbs, imagine her a year from now!
You need to establish that you and DH are alpha so I suggest the books mentioned in the links below.

Annz is right. I was told by a breeder that they, pups, go through alpha stages, at six months and again at a year for females, generally. And males tend to try again at eighteen months or a bit later. Sounds like your girl is right on the time schedule. My girl went through the same stages and just had to be reminded who was boss in the house.

I agree with the above. Plus the fact that too much personal information gets divulged or can be mined by joining facebook. I'd rather limit my online participation to forums like GW and other, less inclusive, less wide open sites. I've been a member here for a long time....going on a couple of decades......and I have seen the same ebb and flow of visitor traffic through the seasons as we are now witnessing. January, February, March are always as slow as molasses but it will pick up when the gardening season comes into to full force in the next 6-8 weeks. And I have to say that the comments about excessive ads and pop-ups surprises me. I don't experience hardly any at all and just use Explorer with the standard firewalls. Didn't realize this was much of a problem anymore regardless of the Internet server one used...... I have to be honest when I say I read more than post. Most of the topics don't hold a great deal of interest for me and I tend only to respond to questions that get neglected or overlooked or when erroneous info is provided. Since conifers are not my area of concentrated expertise, I let others respond first - there is an amazing knowledge base here :-) But I still remain pretty active in some other forums. I also live in an area where the Internet is not widely available so I am not online at home. And since my work life is pretty seasonal and therefore computer access the same, I tend not to post much in winter anyway.

AWWW,What a shame to lose such a beautiful rose.It was so pretty in all your photos.I love Angel Face,but,I don't have good luck with it here.I have planted at least 8 of them,and they do good the first year, then start going downhill no matter what I do for it.I know I will get another one before this year is over,as I dearly love this rose.Hope your new one will do as well as the other one did with all them gorgeous blooms. 2 & 3 yrs ago only had 1 male come to nectar feeder for a couple weeks. last year had both male and female come to grape jelly and nectar feeder for a couple weeks also. this year we set out 3 feeding stations with nectar feeder, grape jelly and a bowl of diluted grape jelly. had multiple males and females coming to all 3 feeders. the males likes solid grape jelly the females likes the diluted grape jelly. our first sighting for orioles were may 3rd. they stopped coming by may 25th. they disappeared for about 2 weeks and returned June 6th. by June 30th starting seeing baby orioles. we have been blessed to see parents and babies playing and flying from tree to tree in the trees that surround our property and also feeding at 1 particular feeding station.

So how did it turn out? We are building as well and I hated all the plans out there some more then others. They were either lacking, or had qualities that I have in our current home. If you are still trying to figure out the master set up I can sure send you what we chose for our set up. Then bathroom is smaller but doesn't lack in function, also we have our master in that same corner and we have a narrow window above where our bed will be way up high and went with narrow windows on each side of our bed. I also recommend that you go to a lot of open houses that have walls in the foyer when you walk in, look at different designs and layouts, see what you like and don't like. On paper vs visualizing in your head is so much more inadequate then actually looking at a home with super small bedrooms, or obscure walls. Your plan may work for you in your head but if you can actually walk into a home that the foyer is blocked with wall 5' in front of the entrance you may rethink where you put your stairs. I saw a few different options where you could sneak in the stairs with a little bit of tweaking to your floor plans. Also, we took a floor plan apart and it is part of 2 different plans plus my own tweaking. We went to our local small town home building lumber yard and they have ppl there that draw this stuff up for a living, I asked how much my plans were and they didn't charge me as our contract buys his inventory there. and find yourself a craftman contractor, one that is great at what he does, small time not a big company builder that turns out tons of houses in a yr. Ours does one per yr, he delivers quality, integrity and he doesn't bat an eye when you want to change things a bit on the interior. He built my in laws massive addition and I watched the man work, he was awesome! Find someone who will work with you look at your finished plans and tell you that wont work or maybe another way to look at it. Build your house the way you want to but first, go look at some open houses that are similar or have some of the same things you have in your plans. Best of luck! I feel your pain of finding the right plan, late nights, research, consumed by what you need and want. When your house plans feels right and you have come to where you are confident with them you will know it is right.

Believe it or not, your puppy is a teenager. They hit a stage where they seemingly forget every single thing they've learned. Your best bet is to ride it out by going back to basics with potty training and obedience training. Remind her what she already knows, be consistent, and she'll be back to your little angel in a few months.

Remember to reward good behavior (petting,sweet talk, or a treat) and punish bad (scolding, slap down a newspaper). I think dogs just forget their training and need to be reminded. My dog pooped in the dining room today. I brought her to the spot and said "bad,bad" in a fairly stern voice. I did not hit her or shove her nose in it. Tomorrow I will take her outside frequently and praise her everytime she "goes".

jannie, I have to respectfully disagree with the idea of punishing for bad behavior. Taking a dog to the spot where she pooped will only confuse her. She doesn't get that you're saying inside is bad, outside is good, so she may start thinking that all pooping is bad -- in which case she'll start pooping in hidden places. (Under the dining room table, behind couches, etc.) It's a different story if you can catch her in the act. Then, you can stop her with a sharp "ahhh! outside!" and take her out, where she'll finish and get rewarded.

When you find an accident inside, most trainers advise just cleaning it up without so much as a word. And whenever your dog does its business outside, throw a *huge* potty party. She'll quickly learn that there's no reward for going inside, so why not save it for outside where she'll get a treat?

schoor, I just wanted to add a couple things. If pooping/peeing in the house continues, get her to the vet. She may have a urinary tract infection. When a trained dog starts going in the house, you should always eliminate the possibility of infection.

Also, be sure to clean up all accidents with an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle or Petastic. A dog will continue to go where she smells her own scent. And for some reason, any cleaner with ammonia (like Windex) will remind them of their own scent.

Can you take your pup out for long walks a couple of times a day, and work on the sit stay and other obedience routines??? I think it will help alot. Two good 45 minute walks a day, and you might get your girl back.

Actually I said she gets more play time now that the kids are back to school. So more walks, more ball throwing, more cuddles, well basically more everything! Maybe I should of worded it differently. I am always at home in the day time, we go for a long walk in the morning and then one right before the kids come home...so yeah she gets her walks in.

Thanks girlswithaspirin, I use the arm and hammer pet foam and it seems to work great. She doesn't go in the same spots, just somewhere where she knows I will step in it! LOL!
She doesn't need to be scolded or punished, she knows that she pooped inside and it's wrong. As soon as she does, her head goes down and she goes directly into her crate. She will even go as far as to turn around in there and face the wall. I instantly know something is up and go sniffing to see what she "did" in the house. And then when I find it, all I have to do is look at her and shake my head like I am disappointed.

And actually she is a lot better this week. No more accidents and she is walking great on her leash now. I grabbed a cheapy halter from Wal Mart the other day on a whim and it works like mad! We are enjoying the walks again! Woohoo! SO hopefully it was just a faze she was going through. Vet tomorrow for her nails, so I will ask then for him to have a check on her to be sure.
