16 vs 18 gauge stainless steel sinks--what's the difference???
Comments (39)"Can anyone who has a 16 gauge sink comment on whether it flexes when you push the bottom of it? i have an 18 gauge sink and it flexes a bit." It isn't the gauge of the steel; your sink is improperly mounted. It's probably a double bowl with no stanchion between the bowls and it's probably clipped or blocked in place. A strapped 20 gauge double bowl sink cannot budge as that would defy the laws of physics. If your sink is flexing, it's leaking. If it's leaking, it's unsanitary, creating bug habitat, and endangering any reinforcement rods in your top....See MoreDo 16 and/or 18 Gauge Steel Sinks Dent?
Comments (2)The lower the number (or gauge) the less likely for denting (the harder it is). You can dent anything :) Just ask DH who has done a number or two on my car :oP But as sherilynn notes from her iron skillet experience, 16 gauge sinks are pretty darned tough. Worst case scenario...a stainless manufacturer can get a dent out of anything...but would it be worth the cost once installed???? Maybe not, maybe, just depends on how hard you throw that skillet I guess :)...See MoreExperts please help! Layout #18 vs. #19
Comments (10)Remodelfla & Houseful. I love the picture Houseful posted. I saw it in an old issue of a magazine I was looking at yesterday & fell in lust all over again. Remodelfla, I live just down the road from you in N Miami Beach & have many of the same issues w/column supporting screened porch which will now be part of house. When I saw this picture it made me think I should go back & see if this kind of layout might work for me. It's very quite different from the ones you've posted, but I love it. We should keep in touch re: contractors & resources as we're practically neighbors! Of the 2 layouts above, I like the bottom, but I'm a bit unclear about the column- will it be inside that final 24" cabinet? I'm certainly not an "expert", but one thing I picked up from the advice re: my layout was to try to keep main cooking components closer to each other. The top layout seems you have to walk around the island from sink to oven. Island will be a good landing but still have to walk around it. Good luck....See MoreStainless steel kitchen sink-Ticor 16 gauge vs. Kohler 18 gauge
Comments (11)Is your ticor sink the 405? Can't find it anywhere. Galaxy tools have them backordered till early Dec "IF" they arrive, could be held up in customs so he says. I am scared to take the chance and my fabricator really wants to get going. My other choices are the Kohler 3099 D sink which is quite pricey (anyone have one installed?) or an off brand from Builders spec that is basically the same size as the Ticor except overall width is a little smaller. It is from Italy and the salesgal online says people rave about the sink. Decisions, decisions............. If anyone knows of an available Ricor 405 please let me know, doesn't look like overstock has the right one....See Morealphonse
