It seems like the blue spruces do better down here in the atlanta metro than norway spruce. There are some middle aged specimens of both but they don't get huge like farther north and about 75% of the norway spruces look sparse like they're declining. I don't think you can get deodara to work where you are because of the cold but if you want some blue foliage maybe arizona cypress, moonglow juniper, blue cultivars of redcedar and vanderwolf's limber pine. I've really taken a liking to the juniperus sp. seems to be most tolerant of my conditions, drought, clay and lots of dog pee.
