Ratio of flour to sugar in banana nut bread.

I made a new recipe banana nut bread last night. It is very sweet--1.5 cups of sugar and 1.5 cups flour. I want to reduce the sugar to one cup. I don't think this reduction would yield a product that isn't sweet enough. I do wonder if removing a third of the sugar will have an adverse effect on the texture and moistness of the loaf. Other ingredients are: 3 large bananas, 2 eggs, teaspoon vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon soda, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, 1 stick butter, 1/2 cup walnuts (absolutely not enough to make me happy, so I increased to one cup). Greased pan and 375 oven for 60 minutes. Used a 9 by 5 pan and had to over cook the loaf to get the center done. Will try again using two smaller pans.

What can I expect if I reduce the sugar by 1/3, other than less sweet?
