I would love a conservatory but it is not in the cards at this house and we aren't moving any time soon. I've loved them since I was very young.

This house has windows that aren't situated very well for growing houseplants and the skies are so gloomy here for so many months that I just don't have very many.

I do have a small greenhouse though. Harbor Freight makes an inexpensive greenhouse that can be modified to be more sturdy than it comes. Learned all about them on the Greenhouse forum here on Garden Web. I highly recommend them. It has been a blast. I decorated it like it was a conservatory instead of lining the walls with grow benches.

After seeing those beauties, I'm jealous! I have a three season room that's perfect for summer parties. Every year I think this is the year I'm going to make it the perfect room, but so far I haven't gotten around to it. We don't use it except for parties because we prefer to just sit in the yard, and I'm not sure it would be any different if I invested anything in it as a room.

As for decorating with houseplants, I'd have an empty house if it wasn't for the plants. I thoroughly enjoy having all kinds of them, big and small. We received a plant as a wedding gift 41 years ago; for 41 years I've kept it thriving and given parts of it away a hundred times. It's nearly died a couple times, but so far it's always come back from the dead - just like we have!

I don't think live plants are any trouble at all. If I had silk, I'd have very dusty silk plants. There's something very pleasing about live plants. Buyorsell, you seem to have a very green thumb. We have a pond, too, and just today saw that at least one goldfish survived the winter. I'm so pleased about that!

I wish I could post pics; alas, I'm deficient in that area.

I have a conservatory built in 1930 with three sets of arched doors where we keep our piano. It is a lovely room.

Willow - I've always loved your conservatory - well every room I've seen of yours! Beautiful!

We have a sunroom, which I'm guessing is the same as a 4-seasons room. We use it each and EVERY day, it is one of my favorite places in our home. We are very much outdoor people and the sunroom opens to a large patio area, arbor and a private backyard space.

When I shared pictures of my violets, those were in the sunroom. No pictures right now as we are redecorating in there. Doing away with the dark green wicker and using a dark natural wicker. I'll be doing a slipcovered ottoman in there and probably redoing the loveseat and chair cushions in the same fabric. Our room is used much like a den and/or entertaining, etc. It is a regular sheetrocked room (not an added on room, or vinyl walled room, if that makes sense) with 3 walls of windows. The wall coming out of the house to the sunroom has large french doors, but there is a bit more wall space on that wall. We have carried our love of antiques into the sunroom, we have a hoosier cabinet out there - I have many gardening/potting supplies stored in there, plus candles, outdoor flags, etc. and the enamel top makes a good spot for potted plants. We also have an old drop leaf table out there with the barley twist legs. Right now I have some plants contained inside a large birdcage and a large metal rabbit on that table. For extra eating space, we're able to pull up the sides and seat 4. People usually argue over who eats in the sunroom LOL. Add in a wicker loveseat and chairs and a couple of side tables and that's our room. We have a large sisal rug out there. Roman shades which are never completely down, but come summer, they'll cover about half the window.

Right now I have all our pepper plants (started from seed) in the sunroom along with some bulbs that I am in the process of transplanting into planters. LOL

Tina, I need to go back and look at the African Violet picture again. I really like the idea of wicker being in your sunroom.

As our new room was being built I got all excited because it kind of looked like a sunroom because it was so bright! And then we put in the shutters and dark wood floors, and now it's a dark room even with the shutters open. But at least I still get good light for plants next to the windows.

In my next lifetime I want a Conservatory! But I'd sure like to have a house to match it on the outside. :)

Not really a conservatory, but we have more/less a kitchen/family/sunroom room. It has 2 full walls of windows and a window on the 3rd wall. We love watching every season and nature at the pond from our room. We live in this room 90% of the time.

We have 2 areas in our new house. The conservatory is actually functioning as our office. Right now it just has 2 desks and a few file cabinets, hardly photo-worthy :) The plan is to convert it into a paneled library with built-in floor to ceiling bookcases etc. Because there are so many windows the paneling won't be overwhelming. Would also like to add beams to the ceiling(12 foot high tray ceiling). One end will be where our desks are and the other will be a seating area for reading, chess etc. The room is quite large(14x24).

The second area is right off our kitchen in the back of our house and leads to the patio. The builder called it a "gathering room". It is the kids playroom now and hopefully in the next few years, we'll be able to move the toys into the basement and actually use the room. We have a floor to ceiling stone fireplace and 3 sets of french doors leading to the patio.
