Best Quality/Value Cabinets near Boston

We would like to buy nice cherry kitchen cabinets for the new addition that we are building. I'd like to find a cabinet company that is very particular about the quality of wood that they use. My budget is modest. If you have used a company near Boston that you would recommend, I'd be glad to get the company name and see a picture of your kitchen!

I think Chris Russell is the best in all of Boston Area.

Hi,

We used Family Kitchens in Salem, MA. They use Wood-Mode/Brookhaven cabinets.

Caveats: Our kitchen isn't finished yet, so I don't have good pictures to show. And I got painted cabinets instead of wood. And I'm not sure if Wood-Mode's price range matches a modest budget.

I can say that I love the quality of the cabinets themselves (the drawers, lazy susans, doors, etc). And the kitchen designer, Andrea Avery at Family Kitchens is FANTASTIC! She was the first KD at any shop I visited that actually sat down with me and asked me how I use my kitchen, how my spouse uses it, which does the most cooking, what hand (left or right) we used, etc. And before I found her, I had run the gamut of talking to people from Home Depot to Moynihans Lumber in Beverly to a high-end place in Andover to more that I cannot even recall--so I had a lot to compare her with. :-)

They have been super to work with as far as the delivery, tracking our order, etc. also.

If you are anywhere close to Salem, give them a call and make an appointment to talk with them and check out whether it would be in your price range.

You may be able to get some Simonton's or Soft-Lite's in the upper end of that range depending on size and options.Typically standard sized windows are only in box stores and are of lower quality.I wam assuming this price range is for the window only and no install.Shop around, prices will vary.

Bosch is a better oven than any of the choices mentioned. Frigidaire/Electrolux seem too be price obsessed (meaning they want to always want to have the cheapest of a given category...which makes me nervous). Kitchenaid, we have experiences issues with self cleaning. Steam clean is not the most useful. For light soils its OK at best. For heavy baked on stuff, it may loosen it up a bit, but we have had complaints from customers expecting more from it. Electrolux and Frigidaire are the same company. The dishwashers are mostly made in an Electrolux factory in Italy. This means condensation drying (similar to bosch and basic miele, but not as effective). Kitchenaid makes a decent dishwasher that will dry a little better, but I recommend bosch or miele to most of my clients.

Consider finding a reputable custom cabinetmaker. People on here are super critical of custom because the quality varies widely from masterpiece to guy-in-a-garage (and probably because there are lots of people who sell factory-made cabinets for a living on here), but if you are working with an architect or contractor who can vet the cabinetmaker, the cost is likely to be lower and you have much more flexibility on configuration, style, and color. I have a kitchen that's a bit smaller than yours, but also L-shaped with an island, and am doing custom inset cabinets for about $40-45k. The cost of good quality factory-finished cabinets was 15-25% higher (including the lower end Crown Point line) - and that was before installation! My architect has worked with this cabinetmaker on $500k+ kitchens, and is confident in the quality. In general, I would consider hiring an independent design professional (architect or kitchen designer) to vet quality and handle design rather than rely on commissioned salespeople.

I've heard good things about Country Craftsman in Uxbridge. Everything in this post is out of my price range - for my project I've opted for Conestoga RTA's, which for RTA's are supposed to be very nice, and made in the USA.
