Yard Sale Deep Fryer

Hi, I'm a long time lurker and just love reading (and have tried many) your recipes. Today I picked up a deep fryer with cover at a yard sale for $2. It appears to be one that was made for WalMart. There was no booklet.

My question is do you fry with the cover on?

I don't have a fryer, but I believe you leave it off.

If it's similar to a FryDaddy, maybe the link below will be useful to you. You could also search online for a manual for your brand.

If it has a snap-on plastic cover you definitely leave it off when deep-frying. The cover is only for storing after the fact, and when the fryer is cool. The plastic cover would melt and turn into a gooey plastic mess in your fryer. If it has a hinged cover then you would close it when frying. So depends on the unit. Give us some more info for exact information.

You got some pretty cool stuff!! My DH would be ga-ga over that lantern, for sure! Great idea for the cast iron pot too! It's enough to get a person addicted, isn't it? My DH is starting to get the hang of it now, as well. Sometimes he gives me that "you're crazy, woman" look until I show him pictures of what people have made. THEN, he's right in there with me. I love seeing other people's finds!

Hi ladies, well the sales weren't fabulous but I got a few things. At least I got out & was "on the hunt" (LOL) been waiting all winter for them to start. I almost bought 8 brand new, in the box, dark green wine glasses for $4.00 & then changed my mind, was thinking I need water glasses more, I have clear wine glasses, now I'm sorry I didn't buy them! Anyway, found these 5 little clear glass apple shaped dishes, they each have a different colored leaf, very pale but it's colored. The pictures make the clear glass look yellowish but they aren't they are clear glass. They were .50 each, then I also found two china latte mugs, brand new for .50, I need them on the boat, but will put a pic here anyway. That is all I got today, saw a lot of candle holders but nothing that struck me, there is a whole summer ahead for hunting more things. I thought maybe voties in these apple dishes in a table setting? Any other ideas?

i do get to use this in our studio quite a bit, and installed it live specifically to do sales training. Gaggenau does not have a problem with their downdraft being used on the fryer, so i don't see much issue there, as it will help keep odors out of the kitchen that way. we like the performance on it, as it seals the food and keeps the oil content down for tortilla chips, mozz sticks, and tempura vegetables. not the best suggestion, but doughnuts are really good too.

Good job! I had a tag sale today, too--it was supposed to be part of a 5-family tag sale but one canceled at the last minute and another bugged out early. But so did I--too few people. Can't figure it out -- the weather was nice, we had ads out and signs. Wasn't just that people came but didn't buy (that I could understand). Just stumped! But I did get rid of a few things. This is what I was thinking all morning: You have to put rockbottom prices if you want to sell, because people really think that today, tag sales=deep discounts. And really, I was good with that. Yes, I paid a lot for the stuff, compared with the tag sale pricing. But this stuff was just taking up space in my basement, and like you, I was thrilled to get rid of even a little bit! Can't wait to take my boxes to the thrift store, too!!! Clears my basement, clears my mind of guilt and hopefully they'll find usefulness elsewhere! (But no more tag sales for me! I'm exhausted! LOL!)

The cover is stainless steel with a window and a top knob type cover. It's very similiar to this one but no vent.

We don't. Moisture condenses on the lid (even with the silly vents), drips down and the oil boils over, making a MUCH worse mess than just leaving the lid off and wiping down the counter LOL. Does help for storage though.
