Dreaming of deceased pets

Sorry if this is off-topic, but I had to share...

I had a really vivid extended dream the other night, starring two old cats of mine who each died about 5 years ago at age 17 (about 6 months apart.) They were absolutely, totally themselves as to behavior, vocalization, looks/expression, size/weight, smell/feel, "cuddleability", etc. I woke up thinking how great it was to have seen them both again!

Has anyone else experienced this? It was happy "reunion"-type of dream experience where we were all so glad to see each other. Totally different than the "farewell" dream I've occasionally had shortly after a pet dies, or the wide-awake experience of "seeing" a recently-deceased pet in a familiar context (snoozing on the bed in a patch of sun, for example) out of the corner of my eye.

What surprised/pleased me the most was NOT that Buster and Mavis are still out there somewhere as separate entities (that's just not part of my personal belief system), but that I had these intense experiences stored away and that they were activated so believably and so completely.

Obviously, Buster and Mavis were extra special to you and I am sorry for your loss. Really I am glad you had that dream so you could be with them once more. I hope you can dream again. A pet is a friend who loves at all times and expects nothing in return. Nothing can take away your precious memories. God Bless. Ellen

I always dream all kinds of stuff when the seasons start changing, and ironic for me to see this as I just had a dream about a few of my pets of the past last night.

The "corpse shovel-toss"!! TOO funny! We have groundhogs that expire due to "lead poisoning" & my husband gives them a "shovel ride" up the hill to a patch of loose sand that should have rows of headstones! The occasional former aquarium resident goes under the rose bushes, and we have lovely roses! For several years I house-sat in the country for the 1st 2 weeks of July each year. One year the resident dog (Blackie-I swear he lived to come up with mischief!) brought home a groundhog friend, only Mr. G had met with mayhem some time ago & resembled a furry basketball in appearance, and something VERY nasty in scent! Of course this was shortly before I was expecting guests for a picnic, so I grabbed the shovel & heaved Mr. G into the treerow. Blackie responded by bounding into the treerow & returning the foul carcass to me, all the while smiling (I swear!) and exclaiming What Fun! What now? I grabbed a large garbage bag & attempted to roll Mr G into it with the shovel while Blackie enjoyed trying to keep the carcass OUT of the bag! Finally I won the battle & the dog won a "time out" in his fenced area. Now I start to toss the bag in the back of my car until the smell hits me again & I say "In my CAR!? NO way!" Now what? In the end, I hold the bag out the open drivers window & drive slowly down the dirt road beyond the property where I pitched it down a ravine about a mile away! The dog had some fun, & Mr. G did not return!

You know I had wanted to this with my long lost best friend Chaos ( who let me tell ya many many shoes , remotes, cloths you get the picture) Anyway Chaos loved to run - if he got out the door he ran, well one night he busted out the screen in the back room and was gone. I called my grandparents who live 2 miles from me to see if he had ended up out there. Grandpa said no but theres a red one laying on the hiway. Chaos was black but in the sun he had beautiful red highlights. Well low and behold this was my dog I know it was, animal control had pickd him up b4 I got there so I called to find out where they take dead dogs(sorry I hate those two words together). Well they told me they go to waste management - I just had to see if this was my dog(biggest mistake I ever made). When I got there I was okay when the man walked me back he couldnt find the dumpster - after walking a few minutes he came to this big blue dumpster that read animal control. I looked over the side and began to bawl like a baby. It was Chaos, I still wish to this day i would of brought him home and gave him the proper burial but I couldnt bring myself to pick him up, I just wanted one more HUG but he was gone. You know I want to thank MarshaO becuz with all these seeds I have been getting in trades i am going to make a area in memory of Chaos. It is sweet autum clemetis and I grew it from seed last summer and it was in pot all summer and was only 2 feet big. It had only one stem. It was my first clemetis so I thought it might die in harsh winter so I brought it inside and kept nearby window. btw I am in zone 5. It did really good and was growing well. Only recently all the leaves withered but it is not black as suggested for wilt. Then the top stem began to brown and worked it towards down. now 2-3 new shoots came from soil. But one shoot died from top upto the first node and the half stem is still green and looks ok. The rest of the two new shoots also looks ok. I hope that it would survive but not sure. At present I can't keep it outside since the temp is still around 30 F. If it does ok I would plant it outside in spring. Do I repot it or just leave it as it is?

I had a friend whose family were big hunters and also they raised/butchered cattle. The first time I walked into her living room I nearly had a heart attack. Stuffed animals EVERYWHERE. At least 10 animal heads on the wall alone, not even including the bear rug and the cow skin throw over the couch. Everywhere I went, all those animals looked at me. Freaked me out! I had to stop going there. My grandparents have two stuffed, mounted squirrels in their basement, including an albino squirrel (so pure white) with red eyes! When I was a kid we had to sleep on the pull out bed in the basement and those squirrels always scared me. So, LOL, no I would never have any "stuffed" animal in my house.

It must have been a full moon last night because I,too, had a very vivid dream of our departed furbaby sleeping in my arms. When I awoke my arms were in a "holding" position and imagined I felt a warmth in the hollow of my arms. I was startled when I realized it had only been a dream.

What a coincidence! I had a dream about a dog limping and then whining in terrible pain. When I checked it's front paw I saw a piece of glass imbedded and removed it and when I looked up at the dog it was my very recently deceased Kelly Girl. I was so happy to see her and she was so happy to be free of the pain. While she was ill I wished so hard that I could make her better so perhaps this was my wish coming true in a dream.

Since I've lost 3 Rottweilers, sometimes in the dream I don't know which one it is. There will be a dog in the dream but it's not specific.

We lost our Chelsea, a 14 year old Brittany in Feb. I haven't dreamed about her per say but I swear I can hear her walking on the carpet and feel her flopping down beside my bed sometimes at night. She never was light footed and always sighed when she settled down at night!

Sunday is usually the only day that anyone in my family can take a nap. We relish it and so look forward to the time after lunch to hole up in our bedroom and catch up on sleep.

Well, my 13 year-old son came into my room yesterday afternoon, sat in the chair and was very quiet. I spoke to him and he spoke quietly and deliberately. I asked him what was wrong.

Paul said that he just had a dream that made him very sad. Our cats from SoCal (Chester & Darla - littermates) were playing with him and he was a bit teary because he misses them so much.

I was surprised that my son was so sensitive to them being gone. It had been 2 1/4 years since we moved to Kansas City. Darla was gone just before we moved and Chester 1 1/2 years before that. They were lovely, lovely cats and cared deeply for each other.

I'm really lucky that my son is so openly sad about missing them. I have never had a situation where I dreamed about a departed pet and this struck me because of this topic over the last few days.

I don't know if this really means anything. We have two 4 month-old cats (2 sister siblings) and a puppy (12 weeks) so, perhaps, it is natural that this come up.

I do refer to them (as I do my other long-departed furkids) so I don't know if I brought this on myself. There wasn't really anything I could do about his sadness. That was a bit frustrating since I didn't really know what to do other than to tell him that it was natural to feel that way.

I had the best dog, Diamond (our field spaniel) die at 13 years-old from cancer on December 5, 1993. I always remember that day although I don't recall the exact dates my other dogs and cats died.

Weird, huh?
