Outdoor cat owners, how do you keep them from gardens?
Comments (15)We have 2 stray outside kitties now, Sam the siamese who has never been shy and follows me when I'm outside the gate, he will sit at the gate and meow at me if I'm inside. I think he is the sibling of BC, a black cat that adopted us just before Ike, and who evacuated with us. There is another black kitty out there who may be their littermate as I first saw it across the school yard about the same time. It is very skittish and I can't even get close enough to tell if male or female. Sam is going to the vet to get fixed as soon as we get back in the houe. I think the guy across the alley is responsible for them, I've found siamese mix kittens before. I'd like to confront him but have no proof-except empty litter boxes outside his house and the cats hang around his yard. BC prefers to go outside, so do my 2 cats who have the run of the house and yard-they choose to stay out most of the time. BC prefers the alley-dry and sandy, Oscar the neighbors yard behind her garage, no idea with Gomez or Sam. Gomez(female) is the only one I've had problems with spraying in the house, and not often. I feel bad for Sam sitting outside the gate, he's such a pretty cat, blue cross-eyes, perfect posture. I feed him and pet him about every day, sometimes I don't see him. Comments (10)Good luck asking her to keep them home...if it works, please come ask my neighbors to keep their dogs home- they poop in the yard, drag stuff out of its place in the barn, bit my dog and myself.... Anyway- there is a product that you put in the soil- I'm sure someone here will know the name- it is supposed to repel dogs and cats also, I think. I'd hate to use mothballs, as they stink to us and I do not know if mothballs really work. Can you temporarily put rocks/shells- something like that so the cat can't dig in the dirt to 'cover-up'? If it can't 'cover', it might not want to use it as a litterbox??? Spray the cat with a waterhose if you are able to...might make it think twice.....See MoreAdopted cat seriously biting me
Comments (7)I think it could be one of two things. He was either aroused (is he neutered?) or during your petting, you hit a spot on his body he found very painful (is he arthritic or have dental problems or possible hidden injuries?) After having said that, I remembered my male cat (both young and neutered) did that as a large kitten until he got another young kitten for a partner and pal. They run each other ragged playing now and he has settled down immensely. He just simply had more energy than he knew what to do with and no outlet....See MoreHow do you keep a cat from using the doggie door?
Comments (8)Thanks all for your funny stories and suggestions! I live in a subdivision in the county... so really no problems with critters (at least in the last 4+ years since I had the door put in). Although once my cat brought in a baby opossom (unharmed) and delivered it to my daughter in the wee hours of the morning! I think she thought it was one of her babies - mind you, the cat was around 15 years old at the time and was spayed many years ago! The problem with getting a door that has some kind of mechanism for triggering the lock/unlock feature is that I have 6 little dogs as well as the cat and I am not ready to purchase so many collars and changing the door itself. I had this door professionally installed when I had my sunroom put in and it is mounted in the wall - I hope never to have to change it out! I acquired a stray from a friend a couple of days ago, and so far, he is uninterested in leaving the spare bedroom, much less leaving the house! LOL I think he is glad to be inside where it is warm and cozy! BettyLu...See Morems_minnamouse
