The stories used to freak me out a little bit but I really haven't heard anything about the Bermuda triangle in years.

I think there can be a problem there, but not from UFO's. I think there might be a magnetic field there that used to distrupt the airplane's intruments.

yard is looking good, i have lots of one kind of weed though, im pretty sure it was in with the grass seed, but I have no proof of it other than its everywhere i planted the grass seed. the leafs look almost like poison ivy, but its growing on an upright stem and the leafs are opposite. They have a leaf on each side of the stem, and a new set of leaves about every inch up the stem. the weed is about 1.5 inches but I have seen them hit about 4-5 inches in the areas I have not mown.

Do you believe in company loyalty?
Q
Comments (17)
I've been a boss and an employee. Harry is right, but so is bellarosa. The fact is that company loyalty isn't what it used to be. People do not stay with the same company for decades, at least to the extent they did in the past. And even long time employees who feel strongly loyal can get burned if the company's bottom line requires it. For me, there is a difference between loyalty and business etiquette. Business etiquette means that if an opportunity you cannot pass up requires that you leave your job after 30 days, you do everything you can to give your employer an easy transition. Plenty of notice, assistance in finding a replacement and time with that person to train them or explain the status of your work. The situation is much more complicated if the employer has paid a search firm a fee to find you. That would have to be made right in some fashion, if the search firm had no minimum time requirement before it got paid. Loyalty means you stay for reasons other than money, or you inform your employer of a better offer, and give them the opportunity to match or better it. But loyalty has to be earned. To me, it's a question of years. In the beginning, it's not really an issue. If you were leaving after 30 days because your employer found someone who could do the job better than you, would you be questioning why there was no loyalty to you? Of course not. You'd be angry and upset, but the issue of loyalty would probably not occur to you after such a short time. As an employee, you have no absolute guarantee of permanent employment (unless you have a contract or something like that). You could be the greatest worker on the planet, but you are always expendable. I spent years at a prominent law firm, after turning down partnership in two other firms. I loved my job. I was paid okay, but I had real job satisfaction. My reputation among my peers was exceptional, and I was given incredible opportunities. I acquired an interest (financial) in my cases, and made the firm (and myself) lots of money. The firm was very small. There were 3 partners, and they didn't really want any more. Still, I was happy, and they were wonderful to me. I used to say to my dh that it was the last job I'd have. Then one partner, who was my mentor, decided to retire early. Another decided to take his practice in a different direction, and left. The remaining partner decided to shrink the practice. My mentor had always told me that if they ever made anyone a partner, it would be me. I depended entirely on the mutual loyalty between myself and the firm for my job security. But the remaining partner, despite promising me and two other lawyers that we would now become partners, did not follow through. My efforts earned tens of millions of dollars in fees for the firm over the years, but this remaining partner just couldn't let go. I left. Loyalty only goes so far, even after a decade. I used proper business etiquette, and my departure was smooth. In fact, I retained a business relationship with my old firm, and we shared a number of cases together. We are still friends. My old mentor told me I would look back on my decision and realize it was the best thing I ever did. He was right. I made more money out of the cases I worked on with my old firm than I would have made as an employee there!! LOL!!!! And they knew it! So, so long as you exercised proper business etiquette, and the inconvenience to the employer was minimized (very important not to burn those bridges, if possible!!), then I wouldn't worry. Not after 30 days. You are not that immersed in the work, nor that knowledgeable to be a key employee. And if they had to let you go for economic reasons, the cost and inconvenience to you of being unemployed would not be a part of their decision.

Is this a bermuda triangle sort of thing?
Q

Well, if you could post a photo, you would get a lot better advice; but short of that you should first know, when you dramatically change the light conditions a Meyer will drop most, if not all its leaves, to replace them later with leaves better suited to the new light conditions. To move a Meyer from outside to inside without the leaf loss, you need to move it from full sun to partial sun for 2 weeks; then to full shade for 2 weeks; then indoors; reverse the process when putting it out in the Spring... and please DO put it out, if you can; you will be rewarded with a happy, healthy plant. Second, when you bring it indoors to a sunny window, the plant gets warm; but the roots generally stay cool; and citrus roots don't like to grow into cool soil... the solution is to put some sort of heater to warm the soil, or to put the plant a little further from the window. An occasional misting is also good. The thing to remember is first the roots grow; and then the leaves and branches. As for the blooms it is normal for Meyers to bloom this time of year (the secondary crop); they will bloom again in Spring. Depending on the size of the tree and the age (photo?) you can leave a few fruits AFTER the blooms have finished and the fruit is BB to pea size. If you cut the blooms, the tree will just make more, so enjoy them. Maturity from fruit set to harvest for a Meyer is normally about 7 months; but that can vary with location and heat. In your climate you will know they are ready to harvest when they get yellow

Loved your analogy to Field of Dreams, Purpleinopp. lol Very cute. I know this is an old thread, but I didn't want to start the topic over again, I just wanted to add that this type of post and disappear thread changes the level of activity on the site. I used to respond to every question asked on the forums that wasn't answered. Even if I didn't know the answer, just to either acknowledge the OP's question or to direct them to where they might look for the answer. I've seen people post a question, receive not one, but sometimes multiple detailed responses and they never come back to acknowledge them. Now, I don't respond to questions, until I actually see someone post a reply and get a response from the OP, or I see a second post from the OP, or I've known them to usually respond on other threads. I feel that people who are genuinely interested in getting responses will persevere and use the forums thoughtfully instead of posting in this hit or miss fashion.

I'm not sure if I believe or not, but it sure is fun to read and hear the stories. I do know there is no way you would get me on a boat or plane that goes over the B. triangle. Dottie

I absolutely believe there is something to the Bermuda triangle....but I think it is all natural and comes from the core of the earth...as in a magnetic pull and underwater gasses.

Hey! Even our KT pal from long ago has disappeared! LOL I forgot her name but she spent a lot of time here.

I think there is something that happens in that area, but I don't believe in UFOs.

Don't know, but I remember as a kid/teenager being facinated with stories about it. I don't believe it has anything to do with UFOs, though.

I do believe in the Loch Ness monster, too SamKaren, especially after that Japanese fishing vessel pulled something just like it up out of the ocean.

lol Judy. I'm from Bermuda and used to post as Longtail.

Nah, I don't believe in it. It extends over quite a bit of area and there's been hardly any disappearances compared to years ago. Else for instruments going haywire, it could have been the electromagnetic forces that's probably eased now.

Some say that it is the entrance to the underworld, or Atlantis.

We sit on top of a volcano and there is an area of water that is surrounded by land and they say that no one has ever reached the bottom. Strange fish always come up from down there too.

I feel safe travelling across it but what I don't like is the Gulf Stream. It carries bad weather and is alway turburlent.

LOL. I'm with dotmom. Whatever the mystery, count me OUT of the test group! There are a lot of phenomenon in the world and I find almost all of them fascinating, but my mind is not made up on the truth behind them. I am in the "natural causes" camp, though, believing that there is much more to our planet and solar system than we know. Lots of mysteries to figure out, lots of explaining to do yet.

My 15 y/o DS will stop whatever he's doing to watch a show or read an article about Big Foot/Sasquatch. He is fascinated and convinced there is "something" out there. He's not just in the "maybe" camp, he is sure of it and loves to hear stories about it.

I think there's something going on in the Bermuda Triangle, we just don't have the science to measure it. Five hundred years from now the truth will be known.

stephanie_in_ga, tell you son about www.bfro.net. It's the Bigfoot Research Organization website, and you can look up sightings and encounters by your state or county. I live in an area with a high amount of Sasquatch sightings. The website has stories from hunters, hikers, Forest Services workers, etc. I definitely believe too, I don't think thousands and thousands of people all hallucinated the same thing.

Year ago I was totally fascinated by the Bermuda (Devil's) Triangle. I decided back then if I developed a terminal disease and had only a few days to live, I wanted to fly through the triangle and disappear into the unknown.

Now, many years later, I've developed a shellfish allergy and decided to scrap the devil's triangle adventure and instead, I would order broiled lobster tail with drawn butter, scampi and crab legs. :-)

Yep, I am Zeetera...and nickel (to a degree) and can't wear sunscreen (or makeup with sunscreen) on my face without a painful day of burning, watery eyes.

I can however, successfully wear nail polish that is formaldehyde/toluene free and more and more manufacturers are offering it. And I can wear minerals makeup with sunscreen without any problems.

I don't believe the stories about the Bermuda Triangle. It's a very heavily travelled area that does not have a disproportionate amount of problems compared to the rest of the ocean (taking the amount o traffic into consideration). Many of the stories about it have been exaggerated, or completely debunked. I would volunteer to be in a test group without giving it any thought.
jemdandy

Nope. Don't believe in the Bermuda triangle jinx.

But there are other factors that seem benign, but can become dangerous very quickly. For one, there are a lot of boats and private planes in the area, and that will up the odds of mishaps. A medium sized sail boat might go out for a days adventure and be totally unpreapred for what may happen. Its a big ocean and a 40 ft sail boat can suddenlty seem too samll in a squall, or if blown off course, not have enough resources to return. They might find not enougb food and water on board, or that the radio was not maintained and does not work, and no backup radio. Some 'sailors' are lost if they loose sight of land.

Small planes are easily lost due to any number of factors. Around where I live, we are land locked, but at least twice a year, a private plane either crashes or force lands in untoward places. The accident is duly noted and life goes on - no big deal. But if the same event happened over water, it can become a big mystery because no one finds any pieces and can not determine what happened.

Just last summer, the Coast Guard fished out a couple of people who ditched a small plane in Lake Michigan. The crash was known immediately because it was seen by a number of radars of airports and the Coast Guard. A life boat was dropped within 15 minutes, and the Coast Guard rated it a close call, because they say 15 minutes is the survival limit in that water. Lake Michigan is quite cold even in summer, once away from shore.

What's one common cause for dropping an airplane in Lake Michigan? Its running out of fuel!

Do you believe the stories about the Bermuda Triangle?
