Wait until you mow two or three times before you apply fertlizer. Unless your soil is low in iron, there is no need to apply or pay for any more.

Mow as low as you can go without scalping.

Thank you TW. I'll try the lowest setting this weekend, if I scalp I'll go back up. I'm still not sure why it isnt a very dark green yet, looks like centipede in color. Maybe because its only 3 weeks old? Supposdily this is certified seed and said color was dark green. The small seedlings were a dark green but now that its at mowing height its more of a bright light green.

We seeded a neighbors yard w/ BT ~3 yrs ago. It looks AWESOME! The seedlings wont have the dark green color until they are more mature. Mow low 2X per week. Neighbor mows his this way with a JD riding rotory and it is looking great!

Where are you located? I am in Holly Springs, and I've been using the Lesco 32-5-7 because it is slow release and much cheaper than Scotts. There is a Lesco in Apex and Cary. Also, you can get good fertilizer for a good price from Southern States if you don't have a Lesco near you. Unfortunately, the 99.9% N2 fertilizers like 39-0-0 isn't supplied by the Lesco folks in NC, atleast not in the triangle.

Have you tried the Lesco 34-0-0? Good stuff plus a little iron.

I dont have any access to any lesco besides the stuff home depot sells, and the ratios are like 16-8-10 or something like that. I'll prob just have to use the scotts 34-0-5. No one grows anything here but centipede. im on the coast.

Even if he had access to a Lesco, he still might not be able to get 34-0-0. It appears that JD Landscapes/Lesco do not offer the 99.9% N2 fertilizers in NC.

I don't think you'll go wrong with either, just try to get something that is a good slow-release high N2. You could experiment with both through out the summer and see which is the best in terms of good growth and economic benefit. Good luck.

Is there a generic? If you can get ammonium sulfate, that's 21-0-0. It would need more per 1000 sq ft, and it's not slow release, but it's probably a lot cheaper than the name brand stuff.

Actually,,, yes, there is some sort of farm store down the road I think. I picked up a bag of scotts that I'll put on this weekend, but still open to other options. I used scotts last year when i killed my centipiede, but prety sure it was cause I fertilized it three times during the growing season. :) What should I check for at the farm store texas-weed?

See what they have in a slow relase urea formulation. Farm stores are dirt cheap.

Place closed. Looks like im running out of options. I figure i'll only be fertilizing 4 times a year. Once with a general purpse, and 3 with the 34-0-10 from scotts. At 21 bucks a bag, its not to bad i guess. 100 dollars a year in fertilizer. Good thing I dont have that big yard I want.

yard is looking good, i have lots of one kind of weed though, im pretty sure it was in with the grass seed, but I have no proof of it other than its everywhere i planted the grass seed. the leafs look almost like poison ivy, but its growing on an upright stem and the leafs are opposite. They have a leaf on each side of the stem, and a new set of leaves about every inch up the stem. the weed is about 1.5 inches but I have seen them hit about 4-5 inches in the areas I have not mown.

forgot to mention, my soil tests indicated ph is between 7 and 8. Probably closer to 7. I decided not to worry about it right now.

what cultivars are in the triangle blend ? I tried the laprima xd its absolutely lovely when i can get it to grow. the storms tht just came through made my last years plantings shoot up. apparently my waterings didnt get it done. the grass though soft and deep green. im in jax fla.

It has mowhawk, sultan, and sydney. Germinated fast and looks good. I have about a full lawn in a month after planting. Only setback is its a lightish green like my neighbors centipede. First feeding is this weekend so we'll see if that darkens it up. Was also told age will darken it too. Thanks for the link dchall, I found an alternate with it. Only problem is i called it and they said to use fertilome 15-0-15. think i'll stick with the scotts listd above and keep looking.

bermudatri09 I checked your zip code and the surrounding Lesco stores in your area. I noticed what you did, they do not carry a straight nitrogen product which at first I thought was strange. After thinking about it, it occured to me there had to be a reason and the only reason I can come up with is because the soil in your area must be low in potassium.

So TW.... that means the scotts 34-0-10 I have to put down this weekend is the best thing I can come up with?

might have a problem guys... brown patch is spreading through nc and I have noticed some light brown aras in the new grass. I have not watered in a few days because Im trying to train the roots to dig deep, but im not sure if i have brown patch or the grass is going dormant. 50% chance of rain today.

can only get 50lbs of cornmeal and a grocery supplier here. Should i just get some at walmart and spread it on the effected areas incase it is brown patch?
