I'm also looking for something similar. Really, more of a magnetic chalkboard, not specific to menu-planning. But, I just saw this during my search. If you scroll down one of the options is a menu planner. Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but it might work.

Hi Danielle - I've got the exact some question (sorry, no answer). I've plannned a spot in my new kitchen for a chalkboard - it's just so fun and whimsical! But I have yet to figure out where to get one...

You can also just pick an open spot on the wall and paint a square in chalkboard paint. Then get some moulding and cut it to fit around the square. This way you can make it any size or shape.

We used magnetic paint on a door - not thrilled with results. I use the magnetic chalkboard linked below for my grocery list.

I just used chalkboard paint on the wall - I did use an electric sander first to make it nice and smooth. I used a wallpaper border to frame it - I cut off just the parts I wanted the checkerboard edge and the little chef guys. (Disclaimer: this is not a typical menu for the week - it was the week before in-laws visited from abroad and we were all going on vacation together so I was a bit busy!!)

I don't have a picture but for a message board near back door (door we use all the time), I plan on using a small slate chalkboard that I found while antiquing. I also found a magnetic pig chalkboard on e-bay (after seeing it in a magazine) that I have up on laundry room next to our 2nd fridge - just went and looked and one is listed - #400035071846. It's great for posting stuff w/ fridge magnets plus you can write on w/ chalk.

I also did a search on etsy for chalkboards and found a few cute solutions (some seemed rough, though, like chalkboard paint over untreated plywood.. so beware).

We lost the spot for our chalkboard when we remodeled but we had one big empty wall behind our kitchen table. Our drywall has a light texture and I was afraid just painting with chalkboard paint would result in a surface too bumpy to write on successfully. So we bought a sheet of masonite (Home Depot cut it to the finished size for us) and painted it with chalkboard paint. We then mounted the masonite on the wall with sheetrock anchors. Our edges are unfinished but it would be easy to build a frame with molding around the edges.

Mine is similar to what sw_in_austin is describing: masonite, magnetic chalkboard paint, in a frame from Jo-Ann Fabrics. Mounted to my pantry door, no other free wall space. Probably should give it a few more coats, it's been up for almost three years now.

I had similiar query and ended up getting a magnetic dry erase board from a commercial supply place - I had the cabinet maker frame it in the mahogany trim to match cabs. Very pleased w/the results
Solved several issues - place to write things, place to hang report cards, pics calendars - it's industrial strength 3 yrs held up very well
