Kinetico tested our water 4 1/2 years ago and installed a 2100 softener and a K1000 Calcite filter.

Test Results

Hardness 40 gpg

Dissolved iron .5 ppm

Oxidized iron .5

compensated hardness 42 gpg

w/calcite 50 gpg

pH 5.5

TDS 1400 ppm

This softened the water fairly well but the water is so salty you can't drink it at all. Forget sucking on an ice cube. Lately we have had periods where the water gets very hard again for a few days and then back to normal for a few. Is it possible the resin needs to be replaced? We have been thinking of an R/O system to make the water drinkable but wondering if it would really work with so much salt. Also wondering if we should try potassium and if that would taste better. Any thoughts? Thanks.
