Wine Fridge or Beverage Center?

My kitchen has been done for about a year - but, I have 1 small empty wall space that I was going to put a bakers rack.

I've decided that a bakers rack would just be another dust catcher and after living in my kitchen, I could use something useful in that small space.

I'm thinking about an upper semi-open cabinet for cookbooks, and on the other side a wine rack and the lower middle a message center.\

I would like to also put a place for my laptop - not really a desk but still somewhere to sit.

Since my frige is cabinet depth and basically nothing fits in my fridge - I'm thinking that on that small wall a wine fridge or beverage/small refrigerator would be a nice re-sale feature.

Any thoughts,suggestions on which to choose? I really would use it for wine, pop, bottled water. I do need it to be on the small/shallow side.

Are they worth putting in for re-sale?

I'm somewhat confused by your terminology. Typically a "wine fridge" is designed to keep red wine at ideal serving temps--somewhere between 55 and 60 degrees. Certainly some also are dual zone and thus can also cool white wine to a lower temp, usually in the mid-40's. This is different than a wine storage cellar or cabinet, designed to allow wine to age properly over long periods of time. They are usually run in the 55-60 range, for reds and whites alike.

This contrasts to what you'd want for pop, water, juice etc--there you'd want typical refrigerator temps, more like 35-37 degrees. That is too cold to server any kind of decent white, though certainly some folks like whites that cold.

So first job would be to decide what you're looking for.

What about a fridge drawer? It wouldn't help with your wine chillin' needs, but Lord knows, I want one with my POS CD fridge! Then you could get all crazy and put a proper wine fridge somewhere else? Do you have kids? I have getting a fridge drawer for my island on my list...this whole refrigeration issue has truly been the only disappointment of my new build!

Are you going to stay in this home long? Where do you place $$$ in your decision ? Suite 3 is a LOT more money ! And, not necessarily better, especially when Value is considered. I wouldn't touch a KA oven with a ten foot pole. And, after how they treated everyone that had trouble with the last generation ones failing to work after a self clean cycle - I'd be leery of doing business with them on any level ! I wouldn't get the Thermador rangetops either. To achieve simmer they cycle on and off and the click is annoying to me. It's also a waaaaaay to complex solution to a problem that doesn't exist on any other manufacturer's product. We have also seen too many service calls on their ovens in the first year too. Their fridges are some of the best in the market, and their vents are competent as are the dishwashers - which are made by and mechanically identical to BOSCH models. As for the wine unit - get what fits your budget and eye for style. None of them are what you need for storing a collection or aging wines, so you are getting one for snob appeal and maintaining drinking temperature in the short term.

I'm starting to do my research and it seems like the $700 fridge has good reviews, but some people were posting about the noise. We are usually watching tv or cooking and I didn't think a little noise would be a problem.

No and yes. No, the temperature for wine storage is different from beverage chilling. Beverage chilling is a much lower temperature. While you can put a few bottles in the chiller/refrigerator to cool down some wine for immediate consumption, it wouldn't be appropriate for long term storage. I purchased a Marvel stackable unit. On the bottom is a refrigerator and on the top is a wine storage unit. You are buying two units and they fasten them together with a plate at the factory. I have put water in the wine unit to cool down rather than be cold. There are lots of combinations of units at different price points, but nothing on the market that does both at the same time due to the different jobs they are designed to do.
