I see no reason as to why this unit could not be connected. A dedicated 240 volt line running from a newly added ground fault circuit breaker in your electrical panel to this unit would be required. Britain does not use 120 volt branch circuits like we do on this continent.

Other than the electrical hook-up, the rest is straight plumbing.

That aside...... I will give you my list of reasons as to why you shouldn't buy this item.

1. Warranty. You have none because the unit is not supported by anyone in North Americea

2. Parts .... if this unit every needs parts, you will have to order them directly from the manufacturer or his agent in Australia or England. That takes time and extra cost.

3. Filters...... need to be replaced on a regular basis. They have you by the short and curlies. Their filters are not generic. You have to go to them to buy the filters and they can charge whatever they want.

4. Space.... this thing takes up a huge amount of space. The dimensions are metric. Divide those numbers by 2.54 to convert to inches. Where in your kitchen would you put a box that is about 18 inches cubed?

5. PRICE..... I couldn't help but notice that they don't tell you the cost for this unit on their website. At least, I couldn't find it. That tells me that this appliance is very pricey.

6. If you have a fridge with a door mounted ice/water dispenser, then the water chilling portion of this unit is redundant.

You can accomplish the same things that this unit does by doing the following.

1. Buy a decent reverse osmosis water treatment unit. It will filter your water, use a carbon filter to remove bad taste from chlorine etc and give you great tasting drinking water and very clear ice cubes. This unit can be installed in a utiltiy room or your basement in a convenient spot. It can be plumbed to supply this water to your icemaker/water dispenser in your refrigerator. It can also send water to your kitchen sink for instant hot water from this device.

2. Buy an ISE instant hot water unit and have the above filter supply water to it.

3. If you don't have a water softener, then get one. Reverse Osmosis units work better when the water is softened first.

All of the above products are available right here in America and Canada. Each is a stand-alone item that can be replaced individually should it every wear out or break. They take up less space. Filters for the R/O unit are inexpensive and readily available. Warranty and support is available.

The above units will do everthing that the Hydrotap will and likely for less money initally and less money down the road regarding ongoing costs for filters.

Castoff - Thanks so much for the advice. It's a great LOOKING faucet and appeals because of how well it goes with the rest of the kitchen but I have given your post serious consideration and will start looking at products available here as well.

Do you have any recommendations for chillers?

Ok ---- it's not my house..... But why would you want to buy one of these? It's another refrigeration unit that needs to be powered. Why not put the dough toward a fridge with a water/ice dispenser in the door? That unit has to be there to keep your food cold and frozen anyway. Cooling a bit of water is no hig deal UNLESS you go through large quantities of chilled water in a short timeframe.

I'd love an ice water dispenser in the fridge but the All refrigerator GE monogram doesn't offer that and it's all we have room for. Our old fridge had a mold problem as well in the door unit - gross, I know.

We drink a LOT of cold water. I try and drink about 2 gallons (yup - I did say a LOT) a day and the kids and dh reach for water first. Right now we buy bottled water by the gallon, 15 gallons at a time, once per week and that is expensive so a chiller will cost a lot less both in electricity to power it (I've come accross some that use the same energy per day as a 60W light) and in terms of water cost.
