Backsplash ideas with colonial cream granite

Hi everyone- we are almost done choosing stuff for our remodel and now I am obsessing over the backsplash. We have cinnamon colored cabs and colonial cream granite yet to be installed. The paint color is BM shaker beige. I would say the style is transitional with the cabs being a shaker style with full overlay. My current idea is a crema marfil/decora light marble mosaic - 2 x1 inch followed by 4x1 size. Wish I had pics to post but haven't taken any.

Any other thoughts? Also thinking plain subway style in a marble. Wanted marble countertops but chickened out ( fussy hubby) so the backsplash is my way of getting that finish too:) but open to other ideas too!

Marble does not play well with granites unless they are almost a solid color. I'd go with a pretty ceramic or glass tile with your cabs and counters. A ss tile can even be pretty. Beadboard is a nice look but may be more traditional that you are leaning.
In our area, the crema marfil is the default choice and is seen in probably 2/3 of new kitchens.

I was worried about that:( so no marble huh? Not a huge fan of the ceramics I have found and really wanted stone. Travertine?

Your kitchen looks very much like mine (perimeter in cashmere with a glaze, and cherry heirloom for island). My granite is sienna bordeaux and I think picking up one of the colrs in the island for the backsplash is how I am going to go. I had considered subway tiles in vanilla but I think it will be too much of all that color with our cabinets going all the way to ceiling (9ft). I know what you mean about it being too busy, though, which is my worry. Your kitchen is beautiful and I can't wait till mine gets to that stage! I actually think the paint color you have on backsplash right now looks really good, so you could use something in a solid color to pick up a granite color as long as it isn't too dark. By the way, are your island pendants by HInkley? They look like the ones I have been considering!

Hi Genab55, Is NEW Colonial Cream granite the same thing as Colonial Cream granite? If so, I used Colonial Cream in my unfinished kitchen, but the backsplash is more on the modern side.

Hopefully, they will get the yellow marks off (there was a slab stacked in front of it). Msjam, I'm linking to an earlier GW thread about your granite choice. I suspect that the yellow marks are iron oxidation (rust) that originates from within the stone. Wanted to give you a heads up on this so you don't get any nasty surprises on down the road. From what I've read, the iron bits in stone can continue to oxidize and you'll be seeing more or it as time goes by. You might want to investigate further... Colonial Cream Granite discussion

It looks likek you already decided but we used marble subway tile with our typhoon bordeaux granite and it looks great. It is a very plain, neutral marble tile b/c the granite is more busy. It is called bursa beige by AKDO. I think it is the perfect compliment to our granite. I also thought about glass subways but really wanted a stone tile.

Thanks epressler- I really, really, love the marble but all of them fight with our granite. I didn't see it until the granite was installed. It is grey with golden brown tones running through it so all the marbles tend to clash. But thanks for the input- I should have just put marble on the countertops like I wanted:)
Now I am still on the fence about glass however. I really like 2x4 size and there isn't much out there. I even thought of doing frosted 3X6 glass tiles. Anyone have thoughts on a full glass subway backsplash vs stone or ceramic?

I do think a 3x6 glass backsplash would be pretty cool looking, but it can give your kitchen a more modern vibe. Check out modwalls.com. They have lots of different colors available and pictures to look at.

I'm normally not a fan of ceramic but in some situations in looks really good. I guess just get samples and look at them in your kitchen.

Hi CKMG,

We are in the exact same situation right now. We are in the process of installing our millenium/colonian cream countertops - and realizing that its a moderately busy granite. Don't want to risk adding another heavy pattern for backsplash.

So, we are seriously considering going with a subway tile (taupe, grey or beige, 3 by 6 or 4 by 12). Wondering what you ended up going with -and if you can share your pics.

FYI: We have dark cabinets (almost black).
