backsplash with Giallo Ornamental tips?
Comments (3)Sorry to hear that posting pics hasn't worked--it would definitely help! I haven't tried yet, but I hope I can post some pics of my finished kitchen, which may have similar colors. I have giallo ornamental, but I don't know if it would be considered the "darker" version. It has dark brown, a little black and russet colors along with the lighter cream colors. My cabinets are cherry stained sienna with an ebony glaze--they are a medium-to-light cherry. My floor is probably darker than yours with carmel, taupe and cream as the primary colors in a random variation 20" tile. I put in a subway backsplash in matte biscuit, traditional running bond pattern. If I had more time, creative energy, and money I would have added a bit of glass tile as an accent. But the simple subway sits there quietly and works well for my needs. I just don't like bold backsplashes--they compete too much with granite. Good luck with your choices, and I hope you can figure out how to post some pics!...See MoreBacksplash Help (cherry cabs, giallo ornamental gran)
Comments (22)Hey Techmom, Thanks for the input. From what I've read I think you're right. The tumbled marble is pretty holy and those will be filled with grout. The honed marbled that you speak of is the smooth travertine I mentioned above. I believe it's basically the same stone as the tumbled version except they polish it to give it the sharp edges and smooth surfaces then fill all the holes with epoxy. Nice thing about those is you can get really thin grout lines. A site I read said with the honed version you can use 1/16 grout while the tumbled version the grout will be more like 1/2....See MoreBacksplash tiles with Giallo Ornamental - diagonal or straight?
Comments (19)mcmd - thanks for your response. It's beautiful! organic_nettie - no other photos worth posting right now -- we're very much in a state flux! I would have chosen the same look even if we were staying. I'm enjoying the fairly neutral background. I think that I, or the next owners, will enjoy making occasional changes to accent pieces to change the look from time to time. The colors that are in this granite are cream, black, gold and several shades of brown, with lesser amounts of orange/rust and taupe. The "jewels" in it are some iridescent specks of white that remind me of mother-of-pearl, some grey-green shiny spots, and some burgundy garnets. Sounds like a lot of colors, but the overall look is a warm light cream-brown. Gold would certainly work as a wall color. I'm pretty sure that when we move, we'll do something similar to this. (What we have: white raised-panel cabinets; ORB cabinet knobs and matching hinges (to come); black conduction cooktop & appliances; black Silgranit sink; Price Pfister tuscan bronze Marielle faucet & black reverse osmosis faucet; refinished white oak hardwoods (StreetShoe water-based finish, to come). So far, we're liking it. perqqderqq - you're right, in this photo it looks as though the grain points directly at the backsplash, but there is really an overall diagonal flow. I do like the color variation for the backsplash, so I'm not considering any inserts. I'm hoping that we'll be able to work with the tile installer and end up with a pretty good color distribution....See Moreneed backsplash ideas for open kitchen/ cinnamon cabinets/beige quartz
Comments (39)Thanks mayflowers. I am sure people are tired of looking at my kitchen at this point, but this is such a hard decision, because it is so permanent! The two ideas I am now considering are: (1) your idea of cream tile matching the wall color (though I cannot really find one that truly comes close to the wall color) and (2) still considering a sage green tile, but I feel like that may take away from my green shelves. I am considering square, rectangular sizes/ different layouts of tiles at this point at this point. as for area, I am just considering doing the area under the wall from the cabinet to the left of the stove to under the microwave. May or may not run it up in the corner to the first green shelf. I am also going to leave the area in the third picture without a backsplash (the pic with the glass cabinets)....See Moreremodelfla
