I say yes.

We bought F&P dish drawers five years ago in black, and they cost about $1200. At the time we could have bought a very nice Bosch DW for $600, but we chose the drawers because of the layout of our tiny kitchen. They take up less space when open and you don't have to lean down to fill up the top drawer.

After our second service call in the first six months, the service tech told me NEVER to use more than half a cup of dish detergent, and never to spill detergent in the drawers, else the drawers will overflow and water will spill onto the wiring, and the drawers will shut down, which happened more than once. He showed me how to take out the drawers (very easy), dry out the interior, leave the drawers out overnight to let them dry out. I used this advice at least five times in the next four years.

We've moved to a new house, but I LOVED the dish drawers and I miss them. I loved not having to stoop down to fill the DW, and I loved how clean my dishes came out. I have a KA DW in my new house, and it does not clean half as well, and we're constantly tripping over it when the door is open. I'm hoping it breaks soon, so I can replace it with a pair of drawers.

I saw a floor model F&P DD in a Sears store for about $800 a few years ago -- you could try the outlet stores, or look in your local appliance store for a floor model. I have not priced F&P recently, but they were very pricey a few years back -- SS was about $1400 if I remember correctly.

Baltomom, I take it that they never really spilled onto the floor? We are having hardwood floors installed and that is a concern. I had the same problem once with my washer, a Maytag, that spilled if I put too much laundry detergent. I have learned to use only a tiny amount and never had the problem again.

The prices that we saw yesterday for F&P DD were not that bad, I am willing to stretch out in my price range if really worth it, and also we will visit the Sears store.

We've had the F&P drawers for nearly 5 years. We love them! Never had a service call. We use 1 to 1.5 tsp of soap for each load. My husband (6'3") loads the drawers and he really appreciates the fact that they are higher than a normal dishwasher. As you get older, this becomes more of an issue. The dishdrawers do a great job!

I love your screen name! True, we do not use the DW much because it is so much work to load and unload.

I am another dd lover. Converted last May. I think your price seems low, but as usual, (according to my dh) I bought the most expensive version. The one with the water softner, etc. We have extremely hard water.

You could also look into either getting 2 single drawers so that both can be mounted up high, or just get a single. Although if you entertain occasionally you would want to have 2 going.

MOst of those horror stories were from when they first came out, I bet. F&P has been making these for a long time. That is why, in my opinion, it is best to go with them--they have been improving the product.

As a sidenote, I bought a sugar dispenser with a spout to use to put the d/w soap in the dd's dispenser. It is great, it measures 1tsp at a time!

I was just looking at the F&P tall double dish drawer in white, and I can get that for right around a grand with tax. I've talked DH into letting me get one, but I'm going to wait until the current phase of the kitchen is done before getting one.

It may take some time to teach DH to measure the soap, I know he'd add too much if left to himself.

I've had mine for a while now too. Really love the convenience of the top drawer. I have to agree with Bee, and have said before, if I was building or totally remodeling I would get two top drawers. Much easier to use.

I've never had a problem with the detergent (except when someone put regular dish soap in - that was a MESS).

I think I paid about 1k or so for mine.

Mine is installed yet but I am not (we haven't moved in yet). I think the design is brilliant, and I am crossing my fingers on the service issues some have raised.

buahh... I do not think I have the space for two single DDs... What about if I put only one DD? Will that hurt resale value? We can use it everyday, and just do several loads when we have company...

On the Aj Madision site, the dish drawers are just over $800 for some models and just under $600 for one drawer. Maybe you can get exactly what you want which is always a wonderful thing.

just curious... If I opted for 2 single Tall drawers - that's a bit more space than a single dw, right? can you have regular storage underneath the drawer??

the only downside I'm thinking of right now --- hmmm, which dw is clean? which one is currently "accepting" dishes??

but as one who suffers occasionally with a herniated disk, the not having to bend way over is very intriguing.

lawjedi, yes if you opted for 2 tall drawers you'd have a deeper capacity and you could have a regular opening under it I believe. I almost got 2 tall ones but it does take up a lot of space across the sides of the sink where normally drawers would hold the sink stuff like towels.

I've already said this in another thread but I can't say it enough, I love my dishdrawers. I've got the FP double system V2 which has a nicer handle on it and looks a little more professional. I paid around $1,000 for the new model in stainless steel. Basically everything else has been covered here. Good luck with your decision!

I had one of the first models--no problems. I moved and got another one. No problems except those that were caused by a really bad plumber (OK, I broke the cup racks slightly by dropping a Costco size box of detergent while filling but I have a mustard squirter now).

To be fair, I've seen complaints by a few actual owners. It seems like they aren't loading it right. You will have some bad loads until you figure it out. And guests will load incorrectly so you gotta watch them.

hi kitchendreaming... we plan to get a dish drawer, too! but that's down the road after we recover from the initial remodel.

i'm undecided about getting two that are stacked. some cabinet lines offer a pedestal drawer which you can put underneath a single. but it may cost almost as much as getting a second dish drawer, so i'm not sure it's worth it.

are you thinking stainless, black, or white? we were at the sears outlet this past weekend. they had a lot of double stacks, but still they are 1K or more.

I've been very interested in these, but some friends have them, and hate them. They find them hard to load because if not packed just right, they can be hard to close. Theirs are a model from 5-6 years ago.

I had one in my last house and loved it so I got it again in my current home. This one had problems when I first bought it. It just didnt clean well. The repair guy said it was the amount of soap and some other excuse... when it still didnt work I took it apart a bit. The piece that turns the wand didnt feel like it should (like it did on my last one or the other drawer) The repairman came back and he them ordered a new piece and its been perfect ever since. I am buying a new one for the new home we just bought.
I chose the double drawer because I keep kosher and wanted two but no space for it. If I didnt need (want) two separate dishwashers I would probably opt for a single large one.

I have both in my kitchen. The f&P single drawer and then a miele full size dw. If I had the space I would put two upper DW drawers and keep storage drawers under them... but I dont have the space and already did it.. I use the drawer as a back up dw.. and love it

It's important not to overload the dish drawers or the lid won't close and water will leak all over, leading the drawers to shut down. This has happened to me more than once. Also you have to clean out the drain thing at the bottom (at least you did in the model I had) because it could get clogged and affect the performance of the drawers. I would get them again in a heartbeat though. They are require a little more attention than a regular dishwasher but I think they are worth it. If I had the space, I'd get two upper drawers and put them on either side of the sink. It gets old very fast to bend down to load and unload the dishwasher. I'm thinking I'll donate my 3 year old KA to Habitat for Humanity and just splurge on the drawers, I miss them that much.

Thank you. I must admit that I am puzzled. Some of you list problems that will be unacceptable to me, and end by saying "I love them"... For example, if I overload them I will risk having water spilled over my hardwood floors...:-)

From what I've read, if they start leaking, they have sensors in the bottom where the water collects that shuts them off. It's not that you have them running and running and water all over the place.

From what I've read, unless the sensors fail, the water never gets to the floor.

Answer to my question about DD yes or no: YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
Saw it today with my DH and was love at first sight. We did not expect the top drawer to be so deep. Our pans (that we brought with us for a test) fit perfectly. The salesperson said it used to be that one had to run the bottom one once in a while, but not anymore.
It even comes with a recessed handle, thus eliminating or almost eliminating the need for a filler in the corner...

Congrats on your decision! My friends with DW drawers love them. I don't have them, but I'd love the flexibility they provide. (I'd actually like 1 drawer to go with our full size DW.)
