That one looks a bit european, but using tubular offsets for roll under and handicap sinks is common practice.

Yes. Prior to the P trap, it is allowed to have those bends (tight radius elbows). I have looked into this a great deal. One can build one's own, with any tight elbow. I have found other kits like this too. Ikea has it under their dual bathroom sinks. In kitchens there are also "remote pop-up" devices that allow you to lift the strainer by turning a button on your counter, and these all have a tight elbow under the drain. Franke UK has a kit for dual kitchen sinks.

THAT STATEMENT IS TOTALLY WRONG!!!!

That statement would have us believe that we may use PVC 90deg elbows in place of PVC 1/4 bends.

In the Plumbing Industry fittings that are listed by the degree of change in direction are classified as "Pressure Fittings" and are to be use on, but not limited to piping systems such as pressurized water supply lines, irrigation lines or commercial plumbing systems but, THEY MAY NOT BE USED ON "DWV" (drain, waste & vent) lines.

All fittings used on a DWV system MUST BE ASTM (American Society of Testing & Materials) rated as approved for DWV application.

In order to insure that the fittings will not be confused all DWV fittings are called bends and they are identified by the fraction of a circle that the change in direction represents, thus a DWV grade 90deg elbow would be properly identified as a 1/4 bend.

Having said that and now going back to the original question.

An offset drain such as illustrated is permitted because Code allows a horizontal offset not to exceed 15" and a vertical drop not to exceed 12" from the drain opening to the water level on the input side of the trap. The only exception to the 12" vertical drop from the drain opening to the trap water level is a washing machine standpipe, which must be a minimum of 18" from the opening to the water level of the trap.

In the configuration shown in the illustration the fixture waste arm from the trap weir to the vent is a straight line and conforms to the standard method of installing a waste arm.

Good to know about the physical distance limits, which have to be there.

Good to have that caveat about the two classes of fittings. Pipe and fittings made for pressure can handle a lot more stress than DWV pipes and fittings... and here we are dealing with a 1.25" diameter pipe and elbows. Finding tight elbows of 1.25" D that are specifically DWV seems now to be the thing indicated to do. Hmmmm.... I'll venture out here: methinks a pressure elbow will do the job here really well. And, they are easier to find. I can't recall ever seeing a DWV tight elbow in that size.
