Is that how your GC usually does it, DW in first and then counter? I don't know the answer to your question except to tell you what I was told yesterday. We had our DW delivered yesterday (haven't picked our granite yet) and one of our carpenters (GC's SIL) said we have to have the counters in first and the DW will be bolted to the underside of the counter. What does your fabricator say? And how long of a delay? Could GC get the plumber out Monday? My GC's subs know that when he says he's ready, he means it and they always show up as requested for him.

Whenever we have had stone/quartz done, the dishwasher goes in after the fact. Dishwashers are easy to slide in and out.

I will not have my granite for a few weeks yet (just finishing the drywall/mud stage) but I think it makes sense to slide the DW in after. The DW needs to be easily accessed incase of a repair or replacement. (hopefully never in your case!)

I had to go back and look at pictures to remember! My granite was installed first, and the dishwasher went in the next day.

It's going to be great having the granite in place!

Most newer dishwasher come with a "side mount" installation kit. Very easy to use, 2 "cresent" shaped metal brackets, 2 small screws go into the cabinets on each side of the DW and 2 small screws go into the frame of the DW close to the door seal. These are designed to be intalled after your granite tops are installed, very easy. The larger question has to do with with how your cabinets have been installed. Do your cabinets sit on the floor or, have you re-floored to the base of the cabinets, if the floor in your dishwasher space is lower than the general floor of the kitchen ( re-floored to the base of existing cabinets) you most likely will not be able to slide the DW into place after the tops are in...it will be too tall.

You should be fine - almost 50% of all granite installs do NOT have the D/W
on site at the time we stick the tops..

there's methods like Granite Guy referred to that will work - there's also a couple
of cool new products out on the market that your Fabricator can use - one is
sold by Braxton-Bragg - it's a bracket that the Fabricator installs that goes in
before the stone is set, then when ever the D/W shows up - the appliance guy
takes care of securing the D/W to the bracket - or to the vertical "styles" of the
cabinet frame as Granite Guy is talking about.

All those little holes are NOT A CHEESE GRATER!!! HA!!! They are so the D/W
mounting tabs on the top - can line up with one of those little holes on the Let
and the Right - and a screw can be set into it to secure the D/W using the top
mount tabs...

Another product that is also REALLY COOL - it made by Chemical Concepts
and it's a glue-able bracket that's designed to be mounted to the underside of 3CM
slab tops - and has a screw fitting that works with D/W mounting tabs
AND it's ADJUSTABLE !!!

There is a video coming out next week that will show this very well..... In the
mean time check out Chemical Concept's for their clips that are called -
"CHEM-SET F1TM38-1.5x0.59's "
and these little beauties are a whopping .50 cents a piece!!!!

IF you are doing 3CM tops - and your D/W can NOT be side mounted -
IMHO - THESE ARE "THE BOMB"!!!

Sure looks like a solution in search of a problem.

DWs can be attached to the sides of the cabinets forming the opening using the brackets supplied by the manufacturer.

There is really no reason to attach anything ac across the DW opening.

NOT having the DW installed prevents that nasty problem of locking the thing in.

If you cannot slide it on after the counters, how did you plan on getting it out once the counters are installed?

Believe it or not - there actually ARE D/W's that do NOT have side mount options -
the numbers are decreasing as consumers are demanding that companies like
GE, Bosch and others - make their products so they are easier to attach when
being installed - BOTH on a side mount or the traditional top mounting tabs..

"Solution in search of a problem"? I really don't think that statement applies here -
but that's just MY own opinion from doing this for over 25 years (Fabricating)...
When every 3 out of 4 D/W's that you deal with are top mount only - I guess
you tend to not use the "problem in search of a solution" phrase....

As far as ease of install/removal AFTER the stone is installed - the D/W's that
are on the jobs that I go to - usually have leveling feet that can be raised
or lowered to adjust the height of the unit so it can be slid in or out after
the stone's been installed.....

This scenario CAN be complicated by the type of flooring that is on the job-
here in AZ - some people use Saltillo tile which can be anywhere from 5/8"
up to 1 inch thick - and yes - this CAN effect the ease of getting the D/W in or out...

Cawfeegirl - you may want to check the floor height in your project - if it's
in excess of 3/4 of an inch or more - and does NOT go into the D/W space
as many floors do not - this MAY complicate your project - and the ease with
which your D/W can be installed AFTER the stone is on - can you get
the design specs of the D/W to check the overall height of the unit?

Brickeyee makes a very valid point on this - and I would concur - you NEED
to check the height inside the D/W space against the height of the D/W -
IF the space is taller than the D/W - I'd say that you have no worries then -
if not = you should get the D/W in there to double check heights and talk
with your GC and Fabricator about the issue...... don't let them overlook this
potential for a problem - hopefully it is not - trust your contractors...

but like the great President Ronald Reagan said:
