Comments (4)Neat story! I've had great success with Papayas and Guavas since getting a flock of free-range chickens. In previous years, the Papaya Fruit Fly, and Caribbean Fruit Fly ruined all the fruits. The chickens have eaten all the flawed fruits since I got them, including the larvae. This fall/winter the fruits have been perfect! Sprays are useless against both pests. Bagging is difficult and caused limb die-back of my Guavas (the fruits are in clusters, when bagged, the branch tips die). Bagging closely packed, tiny Papayas is near-impossible. I've broken off lots of baby fruits in the attempts. Fresh eggs are a bonus! On the downside, the dang birds kick away all my mulches and love to expose the roots of my fruit trees. They also like to lay eggs in my potted tropicals, and poop on the patio(G). My dogs protect the birds. We have lost none to predation. I sure don't want hogs. The stench from the ones the neighbors own is enough to gag a maggot! But they are kept in filthy, tiny pens, with no chance to walk around. Ugh! Lisa...See Morethe best laid plans of mice...and pigs
Comments (12)i am happy to keep y'all entertained. after a whirlwind flurry of e-emails and phone calls last night, it looks like i will be leaving very shortly to drive 90 minutes one way to pick up a 1 year old female pot who is in desperate need of a home. her family moved to within city limits and they are forced to give her up. i promised them a wonderful forever home for lilly and i can't wait to meet her. she has been a house pig her whole life so there will be some adjustments for her but i bet SHE will take right to the seriously expensive, made especially for piggies pool. hopefully, by the time i get home with her, arnold has not POOPED in the break-the-bank especially made for piggies pool, which he has been known to do. oy!! this is "lilly of the valley"... more pictures and hopefully, tales of a peaceful meeting with her soon-to-be siblings. i YAM the perfect porkie parent (said in my best cesar millan voice). :D...See MoreInjured pig
Comments (19)oh my goodness!!!!! they are SO adorable together!! something you can do that they will really love is make them a mud wallow. since i live on sand and water just drains right through it, i got a plastic pool, filled it with dirt and watered it down. they all really love it! here's how i did it... and go to the dollar store, see if you can find a big stuffed animal and give it to dolly. when arnold was a baby, he LOVED playing with stuffed animals!...See MoreAre pig ears really that bad?
Comments (19)I have no clue as to what a bully stick is. For chewing, we buy soup bones at the grocery store. They last forever unless she takes them outdoors and buries them. If they are too big, my husband cuts them in half with a hack saw. I put peanut butter in them for an extra treat but they are very sturdy and pieces can't be bitten off. Our dog never gets tired of them. We have one huge one that stays in the frig for a nighttime calming down treat....See Moresylviatexas1
