They had pecans on sale at HEB a few weeks ago. 8 oz packages normally $5 were two for $5. I grabbed a few packages. And now I have to find ways to use them up! LOL

Alas, I WISH we had TJs here in Texas. Maybe some day.

I always buy my nuts at TJs. They are always fresher and better priced than the grocery store. If I get to the farmer's market in fall I can get good deals on new crop nuts but that didn't happen this year. Walnuts and almonds are major crops here. Pecans, not so much. Costco has good seasonal nut prices too.

Costco, if you have one, is also an excellent place for well-priced nuts in the larger 1-2# bags - cheaper than TJ's I believe.

Raley's has walnuts for $3.99 a pound this week, too.

I really miss having access to the pecan tree where I used to live. The person who owned the tree would let us have all we wanted.

I buy most of my nuts at Costco..and keep in the freezer..Pecans actually have come down in the last year.

But I do love Trader Joes for a few smaller packages of nuts..Used to always get Macadamia's from there..but now costco carries them too..

I stock up on Almond Flour/meal from TJ's can't beat that price ANYWHERE!

I absolutely hate Costco and will not go near one. They built one not far from my house in Venice, on the other side of Lincoln Blvd, and it caused traffic on Washington Blvd to more than double. Before that, the location was a huge vacant lot where they sold Christmas trees. One afternoon someone rear ended me on Washington Blvd right in front of Costco while I was stopped at a red light - a light that had been put there just to control traffic in and out of Costco. I am so glad to be away from that store. I tried to go there once, and all we could do was circle around in the parking lot until we left without ever finding a spot. I did manage to get in once and was horrified by the long lines and crowded aisles. This is not how I want to spend my time. The last insult was that they wanted us to pay for the priviledge of shopping there, and so I never went back. I don't like buying in huge quantities it is NOT economical for me, as I still have limited storage space, especially in my freezer.

The crowds at TJs are bad enough, but I always manage to check out fairly quickly and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. We've been getting eggnog there lately, which I mix with rum and Frangelico.

Lars, a lot of people love and enjoy the deals at Costco. I am neutral. However one of my clients recently posted on Facebook that she went there and was so overwhelmed she walked out with only one thing...a five pound tin of peanut butter filled pretzels...and sat in the parking lot and ate them. I found it kind of funny. Perhaps OT, but that is my Costco connection. I don't buy in quantity either. I'm sure for a big family it might be quite worthwhile but I haven't found a need to join although I do hear of so many great products at good prices I am tempted. No problem with the traffic at my store..plenty of lanes and room.

I forgot to mention that TJs has excellent whole wheat flour tortillas. They taste like home-made, but they won't keep more than a couple of days without refrigeration. Fortunately, I bought a Food-Saver a couple of weeks ago, and so now I can vacuum seal leftover tortillas for storage. Honestly, the TJ ww flour tortillas taste exactly like the ones I make myself, along with the same flaky and crisp texture when heated on an iron skillet. I don't think I can go back to any other brand now or bother to make them myself any more.

Oh, I'm glad you mentioned the tortillas, Lars. I've been wondering if I should take a chance on them. I've been pretty happy with their pita bread, too. I really don't have an excuse not to make my own except it just seems a hassle for one person.

Sounds like you feel the same about Costco as I do Wally World. I used to have to go there occasionally for work. They were our "emergency plan B" for a couple of supplies our purveryors couldn't seem to keep in stock. I hated going in there on a Saturday. You'd think people had never seen food before the way they acted over samples.

They opened a Costco across the street from my office just over a year ago. I joined because they came over and offered a special deal where you could join for $15 instead of the usual $50 as an introduction.

I did make my $15 back on a few special purchases which were a good deal. But for the most part, their prices were no better than any grocery store's sale prices and you have to buy such large quantities. I'm pretty sure I'd never get back the whopping $50 annual fee. So I didn't renew.

Living in Houston, I have access to a great variety of grocery stores with a great variety of products and prices. The Costco seems to be doing quite well and some people swear by it, but to me, it was mostly a perceived value rather than a real one.
